The 14 Best Dog-friendly Places In York / Petspyjamas
Berwick Museum and Art Gallery is open from April to late autumn and dogs are welcome throughout. It is an amazing museum with various exhibits. My favorite part is the Medieval Berwick part in the upper part where you can pass a dragon with your dog and there are also many silly mirrors.

Barter Books in Alnwick is one of the largest bookshops in the world. It is very beautiful with a unique look and nods its old head as a train station.
There is a children’s corner and don’t forget to look up to see the little trains moving above the bookshelves. Dogs are welcome in the library (there is also a sitting area) and in the dog-friendly part of the restaurant. Watch this video and share our Fozzy adventure Swap books.

Hexham Old Gaol is located in the heart of Hexham town and is dog friendly at all times. It is open from April to late autumn. The museum is the world’s oldest purpose-built prison and shares what life was like for prisoners in the 1400s through various exhibits including archery and prison tours.

Warkworth Castle is one of the places we recommend visiting with Fozzy and Ollie. It’s not big so it’s not crowded but it was enough to check it out and make the trip worthwhile. The Warkworth itself is dog friendly and the house often hosts special events.

Dog-friendly Family Holidays In The Uk
Dogs can travel on old British railways for free and are welcome on non-special days. Tanfield asks that dogs be kept off leashes and on leashes. A nice little hike to try and there is also a tour around the Causal Arch.
The Aln Valley Railway runs regular and diesel trains to Alnwick, and is a great place to enjoy a family day out with your dog (especially if you combine it with a trip to Barter Books). You can read our complete travel guide here.
One dog per adult is allowed on the Aln Valley Railway with a maximum of 10 dogs per company and guests must keep dogs away from seats.
While we’re talking about trains, just a quick note to say that dogs used to be allowed on trains on the Stephenson Railway in North Tyneside but aren’t. See here for more information.
A Ruff Guide To Northumbrian Dog Friendly Days Out
Ford and Etal in Northumberland is dog friendly, with many attractions that allow dogs in their indoor areas including:

Things To Do In Dog Friendly St Ives
Dogs are welcome to visit Eshott Airfield and can join their owners in the dog-friendly indoor/outdoor dining area. It’s a great lounge with interesting displays and you can watch dozens of planes take off and land (if you time it right). Cafe food is good. Read our full review here.

It’s always a good idea to check if dogs are allowed at your favorite stores as you might be surprised. For example, dogs are welcome at some John Lewis and Fenwick locations.
There are too many dog-friendly restaurants to mention here, but I’m sure you know what you like. Something to keep in mind if you want to go somewhere quickly, easily and close to the mainland.
Dog Friendly Belfast
Guide dogs are welcome at all Sunderland museums including the Airport Hanger, WWII Street, Military Romney and more.
The Emporium Ice Cream Parlor in Corbridge is very dog friendly. Your dogs can join you in their indoor lounge, and they sell doggie ice cream and treats.
Heugh Battery Museum, Hartlepool As the UK’s first World War 1 military base, Heugh Battery Museum has a large collection of military artefacts. It’s free to visit (donations welcome) and dog friendly throughout the site including Poppy’s sensible tea rooms.
Jarrow Hall is a beautiful Anglo-Saxon and country/grocery museum. Dogs are generally welcome in all areas but sometimes restrictions may be required if there is a current illness (their website will let you know if this is the case). The Hive Cafe next door is dog-friendly.

Dogs are not allowed in many indoor areas and buildings at Beamish, but they are allowed on grounds and indoors enough to make the trip worthwhile. Indoor areas where dogs are usually allowed include:
I thought it would be helpful to add that dogs are allowed on public transportation including the subway. It helps when it’s pouring and you don’t want to leave but you have to go somewhere.
This is obvious but when my kids were little, they loved a trip to the free range (also known as the petting zoo). If you want to get out of the house with your little ones when the weather is bad, it’s always helpful to keep these options in mind. Many pet stores feed the dogs they visit and dogs are welcome in most gardens (though check their cafe limits).
Eden Camp in North Yorkshire is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in all showrooms (of which there are many) and in selected areas of the cafe.
Dogs In Paris
The museum is a former prisoner of war camp and shares a variety of interesting exhibits on all aspects of the war. Ryedale Folk Museum is close to Eden Camp and you can visit both on the same day. Dogs are welcome in all areas of the museum including the house. There are no restaurants but there are tea rooms and shops in the village.
The museum celebrates the area’s rich history with period buildings (including the Witches’ Cave) and exotic farm animals and a 1950s road.
Dogs are welcome to join you on journeys on the North York Moors Railway (except for special events and dining cars). Tickets are £3 and you are asked to keep your dog in the seats. We enjoyed riding this track with Fozzy last summer.
