I have a more detailed post about Frankenmuth here that goes beyond just a dog friendly trip to Frankenmuth. But in short, Frankenmuth is a picturesque town that looks like a German village. Known as “Little Bavaria”, it is famous for its chicken dinners and is home to the largest Christmas market in the world.

Speaking of dog-friendly, Frankenmuth, Michigan hosts several dog-themed events, most notably the River Place Shops. If you have a dog that loves lots of people and other dogs, plan a trip over Memorial Day weekend to visit The Dog Bowl!

Fair warning: Our dog didn’t like the Dog Bowl, and we’ve since learned that Kirby has a strong aversion to other dogs. It wasn’t a great experience for us, so while I would still recommend this event, I personally wouldn’t take my dog to a crowded dog event again. But you know your dog, so if your dog doesn’t have a problem with crowds or other dogs, you’ll probably have great success.

Winter: Stroll past the decorated shops, past the Bronner’s Light display, then head to Halo’s Burgers.

The most popular of these is the Dog Bowl, “the world’s largest Olympic dog festival,” which takes place over Memorial Day weekend. You’ll find dog shows, K-9 shows, dog races you can enter, agility and more. We went this year and as I mentioned above, it wasn’t the best experience for us, but it’s still a great event if your dog likes other dogs and people and doesn’t mind crowds.

Another dog festival is Scarecrow Fest, a dog weekend held in mid-October. Enjoy a haunted house, pumpkin bowling and a dog costume contest!
