Dog Friendly Resorts Near Ottawa – When my collection of road trips with dogs became large enough to fit into one blog post, I separated each dog-friendly destination in favor of producing a post for each individual city. This is the Ottawa version! Here you’ll find everything you need to visit the nation’s capital with your dog, including pet-friendly Ottawa hotels in two budget ranges, plus all the best places to take your best friend with -your fur while you are there.

Looking for a different pet city? You can find it in my post Road Trip with Dogs, full of ideas thanks to snapshots of many dog-friendly destinations. I also link to more detailed pet tours (like this one) for each city I’ve covered, the sooner we can get there to experience them firsthand.

When we took our first road trip with the dogs to Lake Placid, I decided it would be wise to check our route to schedule a pee stop (for both the kids and the Duchess). I mentioned out loud that Ottawa would be a good place, even though it would be a bit of a detour. The children listened and

So we did one better and decided to add an entire weekend in Ottawa at the bottom of Lake Placid. Sure, that meant stopping to buy extra dog food and underwear, but what? Because apparently we are crazy.

If you’re traveling in the warmer months, you should check out these 9 weekends in Ontario, one of which is Ottawa.

Ottawa is probably more dog-friendly during the summer months when the patios are open, but we found plenty to keep us busy in the nation’s capital with the Duchess.

Every time I visit Ottawa, the capital of Canada for non-Canucks, I feel like I could happily live there for the rest of my life. It has it all: art and culture, great restaurants, more museums than I can count, tons of festivals, and more.

We have been to Westin hotels many times, including Blue Mountain and Mont-Tremblant, but never in Ottawa. This is the first time we realize what this chain of dogs is. The Westin Ottawa was also a great test for Duchess House training as we were on the 20th floor. This meant that after holding it all night, I had to wait for the lift and then cross the street to get to a piece grass (I’m happy to say it passed with flying colours!)

We really appreciate Mirror Lake Inn’s policy of allowing dogs to be left alone in the rooms. At the Westin Ottawa, we had to split for breakfast at the on-site Dolly restaurant because someone had to be with the Duchess at all times.

In addition to the pet care, we loved the Westin Ottawa’s location, which put us within walking distance of the ByWard Market, Sparks Street, the Parliament Buildings, and more. However, I have to say that maybe my favorite part is that it is connected to the Rideau Mall (awesome mall), which meant that even if it was snowing outside, we could put on our flip flops and go without a raincoat. My kids will tell you that the pool was their favorite part of their stay at the Westin Ottawa.

Huntsville, Ontario: Pet-friendly Deerhurst Resort Winter Adventure

For our second dog trip to Ottawa, we wanted a balance of content, so we planned for July to take advantage of patio season. Despite visiting Ottawa for

, I’ve always wanted to but never stayed at Château Laurier. It was exciting to finally be a guest at Ottawa’s most iconic and expensive hotel. And it’s a pet-friendly hotel in Ottawa, indeed!

Don’t be surprised if the hotel staff offers your dog freshly cooked treats while you’re there. Our experience at the Fairmont Tremblant is that the chain is more than happy to have dogs on site.

I’m glad we had the chance to revisit this post after our recent summer visit to Ottawa, as there was so much more to see, do and enjoy with the Duchess. Winter weather is a bit limiting with a puppy that warms up quickly, but you can definitely cover a lot of ground. However, exploring the city with kids and dogs is much more fun in warm weather.

Bruce Pitt, which is technically in Napean (a suburb of Ottawa), appears to have a safe and fenced dog park, but our experience was that the entire wooded area was an off-leash dog zone. (Duchess wears a waterproof Backwoods Dog harness, which we love for rugged explorations.)

Frank Campo, director of sales and marketing at the Kimpton St. George from Toronto, agrees. “Society is increasingly accepting of traveling with pets, which makes it easier,” he explains. “Our pet policy started organically with the founder of Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, Bill Kimpton. He had a small collie named Chianti… [Bill] knew that companions helped reduce stress of travel and for guests who wanted to feel comfortable. Remember them.”

In response to the increased demand for pet-friendly accommodations, hotels across the country are competing with amenities that cater to animal lovers and their furry friends. From welcome gifts and specialized concierge services to room service menus aimed specifically at carnivorous palates, there is a trend toward treating cats, dogs, birds, and sometimes reptiles as valued guests.

We discovered some of the hotels in Canada that go above and beyond when it comes to providing amenities.
