Best Dog Friendly Hikes Los Angeles – Los Angeles is a great place to have a dog! We are lucky to have restaurants, shops, parks and more in Los Angeles County. Today I want to take the opportunity to highlight three of my favorite dog-friendly walks in Los Angeles. As part of National Pet First Aid Awareness Month, I’ll also share some tips for keeping your dog safe on your hiking trip.

Best Dog Friendly Hikes Los Angeles
Runyon Canyon Park in downtown Los Angeles is open from sunrise to sunset, Monday through Sunday. The park has 160 acres of “urban wilderness” at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains and is managed by the Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department.

Dogs are only allowed in designated areas including the 90-acre dog park, making Runyon Canyon Park a popular destination for LA dog lovers.
For walking, dog parents are encouraged to keep their dogs on a leash as the paths will be narrow. Pet parents are also expected to clean up after their pets, which the park facilitates by providing poop bag stations around the park.
I love spending early mornings or summer evenings in Runyon Canyon Park. I try to choose my visit times carefully to avoid congestion and parking delays.
Coral Canyon Park in Malibu is a beautiful place to spend a day with friends, including Furbies. I especially like the park’s Sara Van Trailhead because it provides easy access to the 1,000 acre Coral Canyon Park and the Cameron Nature Preserve up 700 acre Porco Canyon.

Dogs must be kept on a leash while exploring the magnificent trees, sage bushes and other native vegetation. As a person, amazing water views are my favorite reason to visit.
The Corral Canyon Park Loop Trail is a moderately difficult 2.4 mile trail that takes an average of 1.25 hours to complete. The loop is a wonderful place for bird watching, walking and running, so try to meet other people and pets as you explore. The trail is open all year round and is popular seven days a week.

The Franklin Keene Park Reservoir Loop, featured in the opening of “The Andy Griffith Show,” is located near downtown Los Angeles between the San Fernando Valley and Beverly Hills. On its 600+ acres, the park features a three-acre lake, an ADA accessible duck pond, spacious picnic areas, and over five miles of hiking trails. The Best Hikes In Los Angeles
Although there are many trails, I especially like the Reservoir Loop because it is a flat, easy trail that is mostly shaded, making it a great place to bring dogs.
The best way to walk your dog is to plan for the unexpected, bring plenty of water and snacks, and be safe.
No matter which trail or park you choose for your dog, keep in mind that Los Angeles is overpopulated while wild. Our parks can be very busy and put reactive and anxious dogs at risk. They can also expose our dogs to bacterial infections from game droppings and carcasses. It is important to plan your trip during the low season, bring plenty of water and prevent injury and illness.
Leaving your dog on a leash, even if it is allowed, can be dangerous, especially if your dog is highly motivated by food. It is best to keep dogs on a standard 6 foot leash for easy access as needed. I am also concerned that reactive dogs may run into another dog or a stranger and cause an incident, so I encourage parents of reactive dogs to keep their dogs safe. Keep a close eye and consider exercising gently for everyone’s safety. . Dog training is also great for dogs who like to turn dog walks into buffets.

I highly recommend bringing a pet first aid kit on any pet adventure. When walking, a pet can easily get a bite, insect bite, or leg or paw injury. Having a pet first aid kit that includes ice packs, tweezers, etc. that can make things much easier so you can take your pet to the vet for an evaluation.

This short walk to the famous Wisdom Tree is a dog’s favorite because it is hard enough to give dogs a good workout without being so long that they are tired or tired. The path is wide and easy for others to pass. And at the top, the person involved can enjoy amazing views.

Marshall Canyon’s shady oasis is a great place for dogs. It has a little bit of everything. There’s shade, nooks and crannies to find, some water to fill up on, and if you do the full circuit, some climbing to tighten them up. The trails are generally wide and very dog friendly.
