We went camping in Marquette Michigan and it was a nice dog walk outside of town. It’s a great combination of elevation, flat points, and beautiful views of Lake Superior on a clear day.
There are plenty of mountain and mountain bike trails, so be aware of the weather and follow the Hogback Trail. The last push can be a little hard and rocky. If needed, I did some push-ups and pull-ups on Cotopaxi.
If rocky terrain isn’t your thing, check out the nearby 4,000 Mile North Country Road and National Scenic Byway. Visits an amusement park with Lakanenland sculptures. Grand Island is located behind Munising Beach on Lake Superior. The island is a 10-minute boat ride away on a dog-friendly boat. You can walk or weave around the entire island. HERE we lived in an old house in the national parks. There are many tourists during the day, but if you can stay overnight, you will be one of the few on the large and peaceful island. Our dog never minded and the boat ride was quick! Since the house is two kilometers from the marina, we brought bicycles and bags. Everything is boxed and packed so cleanup is easy, but bring the essentials!

Looking at these trails and photos, I am so thankful for my time in northern Michigan. I went through one of the most difficult family experiences over the summer. Cotopaxi and these roads brought me and my partner to all this. As expected from the Happy People March, our well-being comes first.
