Lake Killington in the Lake District and Telford in Shropshire have been named the best motorway service stations for drivers traveling with dogs this Christmas.
Oxford services on the M40, Reading services on the M4 and Tavy services on the M6 in Penrith, Cumbria also feature in the top five dog-friendly pit stops.
The survey of 1,852 dog owners revealed that they plan to travel an average of 111 miles with their dogs to celebrate the holidays with loved ones this Christmas. This made it clear that this had happened.

And nearly three-quarters (72%) of people planning to travel with their dog consider making at least one pit stop every two hours so their furry friends can stretch their legs.
Other highly rated motorway service stations for dog owners include Chester on the M56, Northampton on the M1 and Gloucester on the M5.
This research was conducted by CarStore, which also created a handy Pooch Pitstop Planner tool that automatically generates potential pitstops.

It also revealed that three-quarters (74%) of respondents are concerned about where their four-legged animals can safely stay so they can burn off some energy.
As a result, a conscientious 43% of people plan their routes taking into account breaks for their pups at appropriate intervals.

This goes beyond the planning that would normally need to be done. 61% admitted that they are more often stopped with their dog in the car than driving alone.
More than a third (34%) of drivers traveling with their dogs this Christmas will be traveling with more than one furry friend.
And almost two-thirds (63%) admit that they often prioritize their dog’s comfort over their own when traveling.
This level of care is not surprising, as 71% of all respondents consider their dog a valued member of the family.
