I’ve always been a fan of bucket lists. I like the idea of writing down the things I want to do so I don’t lose track of them, and then working to make them happen. I’m sure it’s my type A personality, but I also have this fear of letting life pass me by and not taking the time to do those epic things that some people only see on TV.
I also believe that pets are family and deserve to see the world as much as we do. So I started a new dog-friendly bucket list with Ruby, with all the travel adventures I wanted her to experience. It’s always evolving and something I’ll never be able to complete, but even if you don’t love traveling as much as we do, I hope that sharing our adventures inspires you to do more with your dog. Whether it’s one family vacation a year or an epic road trip, our dogs deserve a big world of fun experiences just like us.

Below, I’ve started documenting all of our bucket list adventures we’ve ticked off so far, hoping they’re worth experiencing for you and your dog too. Many of these experiences were organized around a guided tour, so we’ve also linked helpful guides to help you make the most of your time in each of these areas.
Belsay Hall, Castle And Gardens
There’s nothing like playing in the snow at Lake Tahoe. The powder blows differently here and playing in the snow is a lot of fun. It’s never as cold as you think, and the snow is so soft. Not to mention, the scenery is epic when covered in a blanket of snow. There are plenty of SNO parks, snowshoeing and sled runs where you can take your pups for an epic day in the snow. Clydesdale Outpost is probably one of the most unique properties we have ever been to. This unique guest ranch is located in Whitefish Montana. The property offers an exclusive farm experience and consists of six 8,000 square meter homes. Each house has a similar layout of 2 beds and 1 bathroom. The first bedroom is on the ground floor next to the front door, and the second bedroom is on the second floor. Our cabin had a great view of the Clydesdale meadow and Rue loved sitting on our bed and watching them from our window. Off the living room at the back of the house is the kitchen with everything you need for a weekend away. These vintage-inspired cottages are surrounded by pristine fields where Clydesdale horses roam, and you can enjoy scenic views from your pit patio or cedar hot tub. Yosemite National Park is known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 4,000 square miles (1,200 square kilometers) you’ll find deep valleys, lush meadows, giant redwoods, historic granite cliffs, and more. Yosemite is not just a nature lover’s paradise; it’s also a dog lover’s paradise. With plenty of dog-friendly activities in and around the park, your four-legged friend can join you on an adventure. First, it’s essential to explore the many dog-friendly trails. Some popular options include the Bridalveil Fall Trail and the Mirror Lake Loop, which offer beautiful views while being accessible to leashed dogs. Plus, take your pup for a leisurely stroll in Wawona Meadow or enjoy a family picnic at one of the dog-friendly picnic areas. If you’re looking for a little more excitement, enjoy a scenic drive along the park’s scenic roads with your pup to Tunnel View or Glacier Point as a co-pilot. I love the increasingly dog friendly gyms. I’m not necessarily a sports fan and support a specific team, but I appreciate the athletic and social aspects of it, having played sports for the first twenty years of my life. I believe the first Major League sport to embrace dogs was the MLB and the Bark in the Park program has grown quite a bit over the years. It used to be one game a year that some teams would participate in, and now 21 teams host dog playdays, and many have multiple games throughout the year to welcome your furry bestie. Today’s events vary by team/stadium, so I recommend checking your local team’s website for more information on dog-friendly games and what you need to do to enter. Ranked as one of America’s best beach towns and the number one dog-friendly city in America, Carmel checks all the boxes for a dog-friendly vacation. Every dog deserves a visit to this dog-friendly fairytale town. Carmel Beach is the highlight of Carmel, but there are truly incredible things you can do with your dog here, from a walk along the coast, a bike ride or a 17-mile drive to dinner on the 18th hole of Pebble Beach. Shop at some of the best dog shops and get lost in the picturesque alleyways.
If you’re visiting Tahoe in the summer, you have to spend a day on the water, and what better way to do that than with ready-made kayaks! Sure Tahoe runs a dog-friendly hike along the coast between Zephyr Cove and Cave Rock, or you can rent one through the Wild Society and go on your own. If you don’t know kayaking, I suggest you start the tour. But if you feel comfortable, just go through Wild Society. It gives a lot more flexibility when shooting videos and photos, and I think the rock formations in this area of Lake Tahoe are more epic. Visiting New England in the fall has been at the top of my bucket list for a while. We finally made it in 2023 and spent 15 days hunting fall foliage all over New York, VT, NH and MA. It was, of course, the wettest period the area has had in many years, but we made the most of it and saw lots of beautiful fall colors. My best tip for fall foliage hunting in this area is to plan from north to south, rather than state by state.
