Dog Friendly Holidays York – We love dogs at High Oaks Grange, so nine of our 12 self-catering properties are dog-friendly. Many of our guests have loved bringing their canine friends with them on vacation, especially since we have so many dog-friendly restaurants and attractions in the area. Keep reading to see some of our favorites!
We’re lucky enough to have the North York Moors National Park right on our doorstep, meaning there’s plenty of great scenery for you and your dogs to explore. We are also very close to Dalby Forest, whose long winding paths can provide endless exercise for even the most energetic pups. Exploring the stunning Penn Bog Garden Nature Reserve is another outdoor activity for humans and dogs alike.

If you fancy a day out with the dogs with a historical twist, we highly recommend a visit to Pickering Castle. Used over the centuries as a royal hunting lodge, holiday home and stud farm by medieval royalty, it’s a must-see in the area. And why not visit the Eden Camp History Museum? Housed in the original WWII camp buildings and grounds, a visit to this unique museum will transport you back to wartime Britain.
Holidays In Yorkshire
We are also well placed for a few days on the Yorkshire coast. In just 30 minutes by car you can reach the popular seaside towns of Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, Philly and Scarborough, for some fresh air and beach time! And did you know that? North Bay Beach in Scarborough is a Blue Flag beach, meaning it is one of the best in Europe for clean sand and water, facilities and safety! Filey is a great family beach to explore, voted one of the top 6 beaches in the world for families! A sculpture trail surrounds the bay and there are many interesting rock pools.
Animals? Entertaining the little ones is easy at Flamingo Land Resort; A popular family amusement park with an extensive slide and around 100 attractions. And when it’s time to calm everyone down, we recommend a Wolds Way Lavender trip. It’s fun to explore the grounds of this unique lavender farm, which also includes a distillery, tea room, boutique and miniature railway!
Eat, drink and dine at some of the area’s delicious dog-friendly restaurants (when you’re not taking advantage of High Oaks Grange’s well-equipped kitchen, of course!).
Caffè Stop, Pickering – For the perfect breakfast or lunch, Caffè Stop offers a fantastic full English breakfast, delicious sandwiches and toasties, hot soups and really tasty soups! Great coffee too.

Buck Inn, Thornton-le-Dale – All meals served are home cooked by a team of talented chefs, including their delicious pies! Barrel sign. Pets are welcome in the bar and lounge.
The Plow Inn, Wombleton – The Plow offers the best of Yorkshire ales, fine wines and mouth-watering food prepared with passion by the chef and staff from fresh ingredients and local food. Good dogs welcome!
Feast Deli & Café, Pickering – This quaint local café is a great place to grab a bite and a coffee. We especially love their homemade burgers! Dogs are welcome.
Bakewell Pet-friendly Holiday Rentals
Kaplemans Fish & Chips, Katif – You and your dog can enjoy a trip to Kaplemans for a delicious fish meal! Expect big portions, delicious fries and a very happy stomach.
Olivia Rose from Yorkshire, Pickering – This country cafe offers delicious hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes, pastries and snacks. There are also a variety of local crafts for sale. Dogs are welcome.
All of our dog-friendly properties are spacious and welcome puppies of all shapes and sizes. Whether you stay at The Grange or the Glamping Pod, your pets are sure to feel right at home. We usually allow up to two dogs per house and there is a charge of £8 per dog per night. In addition to covering additional cleaning fees, this puppy fee includes a puppy welcome pack. If the thought of bringing your dog to York makes you nervous, fear not, as man’s best friend will always receive a warm welcome, with many dog-friendly businesses located across the city.
