This stunning location is a two and a half hour drive from Sydney and is home to a number of waterways, cafes and restaurants too. The same animal rules apply to Halifax, which means you must work during the park’s peak hours, but when you do, prepare for direct access to Shoal Bay Beach, BBQ, picnic areas, and hiking and biking trails.

Merry Beach Caravan Park is located within the Murramarang National Park coastline (and is the perfect definition of coastline). For campers (and hikers if you prefer), you can choose from en-suite, powered or unpowered sites on the beach or beach-facing sites. All campsites have an open fire in a fire pit or over a fire pit. Your dog is allowed here all year round, but there are only two dog passes per booking and you must keep your dog on a leash while in the park.

This goes out to anyone who has seen The Blue Laguna and thought, “that sounds good.” Coachwood Campground, three and a half hours northwest of Sydney, is remote and usually only accessible by 4WD (2WD can sometimes work, but can be difficult). The site is on the Telegherry River and offers a rainforest with paddling pool, dog or alternative. 

These men really understand the term “fur baby”. They know you love your dog and that there aren’t many hugs, kisses and pictures of them. Conveniently, all 750 acres of their park is accessible to dogs on or off leash. Nearby Barrington Bar and Grill even has an animal-only Hound’s Breath Café menu that includes the Pup a Chino. You and your dog can also enjoy hiking trails and cool mountain lakes. Most areas do not have electricity, but there is hot water and ironing facilities for laundry. Not in a tent? Cabins are also available and are pet friendly.
