Just over 10 miles from the historic city of York, rich in history and culture, there is much to discover in this beautiful area of North Yorkshire.
Wishing Well is a lovely cottage for two in Millgate, in the Georgian town of Richmond, North Yorkshire. All the houses on this street are different, built at different times, but they don’t all face the steep slope that eventually flows into the River Swale. Known as the gateway to the Dales, Richmond is the perfect place to explore all that this beautiful part of Yorkshire has to offer.
Properties such as The Old Dairy, in the village of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe, near Thirsk, are particularly suitable for pets. The cottage, new for 2021, is surrounded by gardens opening onto the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. It has a branch, perfect for large dogs and those dogs that have their own private space.
Escape to the forest! This detached bolthole is set in a beautiful wooded park in the village of Sand Hutton near York. This former shop has been beautifully converted into a log cabin, only for the second time.

Sunflower Cottage in Ampleforth is another new addition to our collection. Sitting on the edge of the Moors, it is close to a variety of walks for all abilities, as well as an old railway day. The interior design encourages a feeling of light, while the soothing color palette encourages relaxation. And the folding gate ensures that your curious pup doesn’t get lost in the large yard.
The valleys, like the Moors, offer endless walking opportunities and proximity to lakes (including willing swimming breeds such as labradors and spaniels). Parties at Brownber Hall can accommodate up to 15 people and up to two dogs. A great choice, this property has been featured in publications including the Sunday Times, The Telegraph, Guardian, Condé Nast, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair and Marie Claire. Brownber’s private chef will prepare delicious meals, casual picnics and entertainment for all your dogs.
The extensive Brownber Estate now includes Brownber House, which is adjacent to the Great Hall. Former Soho House architect Georgina Rose has recently renovated the house, including a boot room, which can wipe off muddy puppies before retiring for the night in the living room.
Of course, isolation does not mean access to resources. The Next Door is located just eight miles from historic York city centre. But the two-bedroom barn with its own courtyard overlooks acres of parkland and woodland, replicating the natural atmosphere. It is a well-designed interior, with a sturdy shop, campfire, bushcraft activities, mud kitchen and forest equipment available. A family favorite, Next Door has a stylish but relaxed atmosphere.

There’s nothing quite like watching your dog run through the sand, tongue sticking out, ears flapping and the wind blowing their fur.
