Ever since I became a parent to Hobbes, my three-year-old Shih Tzu, traveling around Cebu has become more challenging. Where before I could quickly pack my bags and head to the beach or the mountains on a whim, I now have to research my destinations carefully to make sure Hobbes is well looked after every time we travel.
Most, if not all, of the high-end hotels in Cebu City and the resorts in Mactan do not allow pets, so it was a treat to find these pet-friendly places. Note that most are a long drive from the city itself.
On our first trip out of town, I took Hobbes to Bantayan Island. We stayed at the Coral Blue Oriental Villas and we loved our spacious rooms, especially the native bathroom.

The resort was not strict with its pet policy. Hobbes was allowed anywhere and could walk on a leash. But I followed him closely because there were stray dogs in the area.

Hobbes had fun running around there and yes, he made me run after him. Eh. The island is huge, and it was hot, so halfway through our trip on the trail, Hobbes refused to hit it. There are several listings for AirBnBo units at the SolineaResort Condominium that allow pets, and during a much-needed trip to town, I took Hobbes with me. The location was perfect because it was across from Ayala Center Cebu.

The only downside was that every morning and afternoon I had to take Hobbes downstairs for his daily walks and potty time. And because the entire floor area of the condominium was paved, I had to take it to an empty grass lot in front of the HSBC building, which meant crossing the busy intersection.
This secluded Malapascu resort is ideal for parents like me because of its popular gardens and private beach, both of which are perfect for a stroll.
For our first two nights we stayed in their standard room. It’s smaller than the usual hotel rooms we’re used to, but it had a balcony which Hobbes loved because it was airy there.
On our third night, we moved to a De Luxe room, which was more spacious and had a floor-to-ceiling window that gave us a lovely view of the sea.

Hobbes loved this room and spent most of his days looking out the window. He also liked the side table outside and made it his own sitting area.
Some comments about Tepanee’s animals: they have house dogs and while at the resort they are calm and sweet, in the restaurant they are – strays that they feed from time to time, from this is what the staff told me – they are loud and a bit aggressive around others dogs because every time they see Hobbes, they bark. Watch out for the cats, too, because even when they didn’t come near us, their presence was enough to make Hobbes go ballistic. (He dislikes cats and chases them.)
When it came to the pet policy, Tepanee was not strict either. I was not asked to sign a waiver. Hobbes was also allowed everywhere, even in the restaurant.
