Dog Friendly Beaches East Coast – You’d think we’d escape the pandemic, get on a plane and sunbathe in the Bahamas. It might surprise you, but we found a gem on the south coast that is very beautiful. If you’re looking for a dog beach on the South Shore, we’ve found a little piece of paradise that I’d like to share.
Have you been to Camber Sands before? Of course I didn’t, but after a “sand near me” check, this is one of the results. Despite recent bad news about people visiting beaches during the coronavirus pandemic, and pictures of crowded beaches in Bournemouth, Brighton and other popular areas, we decided to spend our last day at the beach. September. At the beginning of the new semester, our idea is that the beaches should be quiet. The south coast has few sandy beaches; Most of them are sand or gravel. Searching for a day with dogs and a sandy beach brings competition. Camber Sands in East Sussex definitely won our vote as we found that the beach is full of sand and lunchtime at low tide is the best time to visit, providing lovely golden sand for the dogs. I also had a quick look on TripAdvisor and most of the reviews were positive. A bag full of wipes, diaper bags, antibacterial gel, baby wipes and a mask (just in case) and off you go! The trip took about an hour and a half and then we had to find a parking place near the beach. When we walked into the parking lot, we were told “no dogs on this beach, ask the attendant.” Fortunately, there was an attendant at the parking kiosk who told us to drive only along the road and the parking lot was close to the dog beach. We drove to this parking lot for about a minute and it was easy.
It was truly an amazing sight that greeted us! I took my shoes off the car as it was a short climb to the beach along a sandy path, holding on to the swaying grass, which led us to a wonderful view of the deep blue sea against the blue sky.
We crossed the beautiful coast and reached the sea, considering the September sun, which was very inviting and warm. Both dogs loved tying the bridles and paddles until they bought a frisbee to encourage play. It’s great to see them in the water – paddling dogs jumping the waves and swimming encouragingly. This is a far cry from the dogs taken to the park last year who refused to jump into the pool – despite the lure of a tennis ball. To be honest, I don’t think either dog could swim when we went to Paws in the Park at Ardingly, a showground in the south of England last May. We still haven’t saved Ellie and I know Duke can’t swim. Even though they were both natural water babies on this special day, the experience was great, maybe their confidence was boosted because we were in the water with them. Hmm yeah short and all. Note to self – try to remember that jean shorts and the ocean are not a good combination, especially if you’re going to be on the sand for a while afterwards, catch my drift?

Going back to Paws in the Park – considering our lives are a little more normal than “normal”, I think these two spaniels are perfect for a big pool!
There’s a side trail here, but have you been to the park before? Paws in the Park is a dog-friendly event where your dogs can participate in activities such as dog shooting, bouncy ball, agility, search and rescue, and swimming. There are also many dog supply stores. I recommend a visit if you are looking for a fun day out with the dogs. The events take place at the South of England Showground in Ardingly, West Sussex and the Kent Showground in Detling, Kent. You can find current information at the bottom of the site
At Camber Sands Beach, dogs love chasing frisbees in the sea and on the beach, jumping in the waves and running out of the water. It was a beautiful day. It probably helped that the sun was shining, the sky was blue and the beach wasn’t too busy. It’s a dog-friendly day all year round. In September, a weekday is chosen, so there are no school days, and it’s worth calling. If you don’t have kids at school, I recommend going to the beach in the off-season when it’s much calmer. There were very few people on the beach and they were there for rescue work. I have lived on the east coast most of my life and as someone who loves to travel I can say I have spent many years. If you visit before May 1st, dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash. There are some restrictions during the summer months, but dogs are welcome on Dewey Beach before 9:30 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m.
