Ben There Done That: Glacier View Trail
The trail is at “Dog Hill” so your dog is invited! Located in the Columbia River Valley, the Dog Mountain Trail allows hikers and their four-legged friends to see beautiful wildflowers in the spring and breathtaking views of the valley. Make sure you warm up before going out; The first half mile of the road is a ditch before reaching a fork This loop may be challenging for some, but we promise views of the Columbia River and surrounding mountain ranges! Of the three national parks in Washington, I think Mount (Mt) Rainer National Park is the most difficult to get to with a dog. Trustee Pupu Ruby and I went for Christmas in 2021 and due to heavy snow we had a limited number of trails, very few trails and dog presence in Mt/Mt.Rainer National Park. We still found some places to walk and play in the snow, but it would have been nice to have a list of dog-friendly trails before Mount Rainier National Park. Wa Dog Owners, Follow These Rules For Bringing Fido Hiking
Mount Rainier National Park (MRNP) is the highest mountain in Washington State, at over 14,000 feet. It is actually a volcano and gets a lot of snow every year I wouldn’t consider Mt. Rainier National Park a dog-friendly national park because unlike Redwood, Olympic, or Conger, there aren’t many roads or trails for your dog to access.
However, the nearby towns of Bagwood and Ashford have many dog-friendly cabins and are more expensive than some of the country’s wooded areas. You’ll find it easier to take your pups for a walk or hike, leaving them in the cabin while you’re gone.
As with any park or trail, you and your dogs need to be well behaved at BARK Ranger. Dogs must be on a leash, carry plenty of water and carry your dog behind you I’ve linked each hike to its Washington Trails Association trail page. Read the directions, information and trip reports thoroughly to determine if the trip is safe for you and your dog.
