Waterville Valley, New Hampshire is a great dog-friendly vacation spot. Our most recent travel adventure with Icy and Phoebe was a trip to Waterville Valley Ski Area, New Hampshire. No, the dogs didn’t ski, I did! New Hampshire is one of the 6 states that make up New England and is one of my favorite New England states to visit. Other states that make up the New England region of the northeastern United States are; Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. All these states are beautiful in every season and each one has something special to offer. However, we love New Hampshire best in both winter and summer. Waterville Valley is one of our dog-friendly vacations, so we return as often as possible.
Waterville Valley Resort has so many fun things to offer 🐶 The best thing about Waterville Valley for us is that they are dog friendly! 🐶 At the center of the village is a charming town square, surrounded by many restaurants and shops. There’s also a live webcam in the center of the square, so you can catch a glimpse of the action on the town square at any time. The ski resort also has a live webcam at the base of the mountain. We are such geeks, we like to watch live webcams for weeks before we go, to see how the snow looks and how crowded the mountain is! Click here to view Waterville Valley’s live webcams from “Mountain Cams” (I love it!). ⛷ One of the scenic trails for cross-country skiing runs right behind the town square. Pedestrians and (with paws) dogs are allowed! The trail is beautiful and has several bridges over bubbling streams and a very cool tunnel that goes under the main road. We have had wonderful long walks with the dogs on this route. It’s really one of the things that keeps us coming back! ⛷ The ski resort also offers cross-country skiing and alpine skiing. This is great for us because I ski but my husband is a cross-country skier. We take turns skiing and watching the dogs, so it works out perfectly for us! Trust me, it’s not easy to find a ski resort that offers both types of skiing and is dog friendly. 🐶 There are several apartments where pets can be rented within the resort, but you should book early as they fill up quickly. The resort only has one pet-friendly hotel, but it’s a decent hotel and usually has terrible (deserved) reviews on TripAdvisor. You can read more about our trip to Waterville Valley two years ago when we stayed there. This was one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in! What a shame, that president could have done so much more with that piece of Waterville Valley real estate.
The first time we visited Waterville Valley and I saw this trail, my heart sang! I’m so used to seeing no dog signs in many places that it’s refreshing to see a beautiful resort where dogs are actually welcome! A ski resort with downhill and cross-country skiing and it’s dog-friendly!? Um…yes please!
We can enjoy a good walk for an hour or two on this jogging track where dogs are allowed. This is one of my favorite things to do at the resort, and needless to say the dogs love it!
New Hampshire State Parks Pet Policy
Planning a dog-friendly vacation takes time and research. Finding the right accommodation for both you and your dog isn’t always easy. We didn’t plan ahead for this trip to Waterville Valley. As I said before, there is only one pet friendly hotel in the resort and it is terrible. I will never stay there again. I checked private vacation homes at the resort to find an apartment or condo that allows dogs. There were some pet friendly facilities but few were available. Most are large and are for families. We didn’t need space for 6+ people, so had little free time. However, after much research, we came across the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Plymouth New Hampshire. This hotel is owned by Marriott and is approximately 17 miles from Waterville Valley Ski Resort. It seemed like a good option at the time, not in a resort, but it was possible. Well, it turned out to be a wonderful find!
Plymouth, NH Fairfield Inn & Suites is brand new and completely renovated. It was very clean and the staff was very friendly, especially the general manager. Rooms have a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. The bathroom was great, clean and spacious with plenty of hot water in the shower! They didn’t give us a million rules about what our dogs couldn’t do in the hotel, they welcomed us. The icing on the cake, and something we didn’t know before, is that this hotel offers discounted ski lift tickets to Waterville Valley! I only paid $41 for a full day lift pass in the middle of the week. A normal midweek lift ticket cost $79! This is a fantastic savings and well worth the 18 mile drive to the ski resort.
Dog approved! Snowy and Phoebe loved our room at the Fairfield Inn & Suites! They were very comfortable and happy there.
Waterville Valley is just as beautiful in summer as it is in winter. I am already planning our trip this summer. I look forward to many walks there with the dogs. Burlington, Vermont is one of New England’s dog-friendly destinations. Offering great outdoor adventures and a hip, laid-back downtown, Burlington is as much a playground for dogs as it is for their companions. There are lots of fun things you can do with your puppy. Bike the Burlington Greenway along Lake Champlain, then stop to sample local beers at one of the city’s many dog-friendly breweries. Burlington beer spots that allow dogs on the patio include Foam Brewers and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery, while places like Switchback Brewing Company also allow dogs indoors. One of New England’s most popular pedestrian (and puppy-friendly) malls, Church Street Marketplace has a number of dog-friendly restaurants and shops.
