Best Dog Friendly Beaches Sunshine Coast – The Sunshine Coast is home to many stunning beaches from Noosa in the north to Caloundra in the south. Fortunately, there are many dog-friendly beaches that you can enjoy with your dog. Choose between these Sunshine Coast dog beaches for a fun day in the sun enjoying the sand and water!

If you are visiting Noosa, one of the most popular dog beaches in the area is Noosa Spit at Noosa Heads. Behind Noosa Main Beach, where dogs are surprisingly prohibited, dogs are allowed on the entire stretch of spits that line both sides of the Noosa River and beach.

Perhaps the most popular option is on the north side (search for “dog beach” on Google Maps), although I found great stretches of sand on the south side during my trip.

Double-check the map on the council’s website to see which areas have been removed, or look for dog-exercise signs when visiting, though it would be nice if something did.

Another great dog beach near Noosa is just north of Sunshine Beach. The off-leash exercise area begins at Seaview Terrace North near the small car park and extends north to the Noosa National Park boundary, after which dogs are prohibited. Search “Sunshine Beach dog off-leash area” on Google Maps.

This dog beach is an especially good beach when the wind is from the west, as it remains sheltered, although the water is too rough for most dogs to swim. On the day we visited there were lots of locals walking around on the sand with their dogs.

To the south of the Sunshine Coast, there is a long stretch of off-leash beach that runs through the areas around Castaways Beach and Marcos Beach. It is approximately 4 kilometers long from Beach Access 38 (near the south of Orient Park) to Beach Access 47 (at Tasman Treasure Park).

A Dog Friendly Holiday On The Norfolk Coast

Dog Beach on the Sunshine Coast is a great place for a long, off-leash walk with your dog. Be aware of very rough surf if you have a small dog.

One of the most popular off-leash dog beaches on the entire Sunshine Coast is Stormers Creek, north of Coolum. Dogs are allowed between beach accesses 67 and 72 between Colum Beach Caravan Park and 1km north of Stormers Creek and adjacent waters.

The highlight of this dog beach is the calm waters of the lagoon, perfect for dog paddling. There is also a convenient dog wash between the lagoon and the car park, a great place to wash your sandy dog before getting in your car.

Twin Waters is another great spot on the Sunshine Coast with calm waters for dog swimming. In both waters, dogs are allowed on North Shore Beach from 140 meters north of Beach Access 132 to Beach Access 136, including the calm waters at the entrance to the Maroochy River.

To find this dog beach, go to the car park at the end of North Beach Road or search for “Dog Beach Madzimba” on Google Maps.

At Point Cartwright in Bodina, there are two areas on the beach where dogs can run loose. On the weekday we visited, Point Carteret Beach was the most popular area.

The beach is adjacent to Point Cartwright Reserve, east of the breakwall at the entrance to the Mololo River. To access this beach you must walk with your dog through the reserve or along the Mooloola River from La Balsa Park – there is no nearby road access.

Note that dogs are only allowed before 8am and after 4pm and on weekdays. The rest of the weekdays they must stay on the Strip, but they are banned from the beach on weekends. This is currently a temporary setting and will be tested until June 30, 2025.

Dog Off-leash Areas

On the other side of Point Cartwright is another off-leash dog beach. Dogs are allowed without any time limit on the beach at the north end of Bodina Beach from 198 to 201 (near Gly Road).

However, on the day we visited, the beach was very rough, so I can understand why this beach is not popular for dog paddling.

Badina Seaside Beach is home to the second strip area between Coastal Road 210 and 217, roughly from Maura Road to Talinga Road. This long beach has plenty of space so it is less crowded and parking is easy.

Sunshine Beach Surf Club

This 4 km stretch of beach is a relatively quiet stretch of sand to walk your dog, with many heading to Varna Foreshore Bushland Reserve and Bokarina Foreshore Bushland Reserve. There are several entry points – take your pick.

The above beaches are not dog-friendly beaches on the Sunshine Coast. Leashed dogs are also allowed at other beaches from north to south:
