Dog Friendly Vacations Missouri

Dog Friendly Vacations Missouri – Head to Missouri for an unforgettable vacation. Most dog-friendly beaches and swimming areas are in or around Columbia City, which has many state parks and natural areas with hiking trails. In fact, most of these areas are dedicated to dog parks with pools and ponds just for the pets. When choosing a Missouri vacation, remember that state parks have some strict rules about dogs on beaches and swimming areas. However, animals are allowed on the trail as long as they are kept on a leash. Check out the most beautiful beaches in Missouri.

In the southern suburbs of Columbia, Twin Lakes Recreation Area offers fun for dogs. The fenced area covers a large lawn, Paws Pond, part of the beach, and all 16 acres of Twin Lakes Fishing Lake, giving your dog plenty of room to run and swim. While the beach is closed from November to March – the thin ice can be a problem for two- and four-legged animals – the rest of the year it is open and unrestricted. Many animal resorts in the area are within walking distance of the park. In fact, if you find one near the Hinkson Woods Conservation Area, you can walk your dog (on a leash) along the trail that leads to the dog park. While you take care of your dog, the whole family can swim at nearby Little Mates Cove, just a few yards away, or take a walk in Hinxon Creek. Afterward, enjoy a walk along the Forum Natural Area and Branch-Hinkson Creek Wetlands.

The Ultimate Dog-friendly Summer Road Trip Guide

If you head north from downtown Columbia, you’ll reach the Garth Nature Area with its only dog โ€‹โ€‹park with a lake and beach. While the beach and pool aren’t very big (the entire park covers 3 acres), it’s more than big enough for your dog to stretch his legs and have fun. The dog park is part of the larger Garth Nature Area, with trails through the trees, around lakes and across the ocean. Explore the area with your leashed dogs or hike the Bear Creek Trail from the park to Cosmo Park. Afterwards, treat yourself to great food at Houlihan’s, Smokin Chicks BBQ and 44 Stone Public House. Get ready to go out on the patio with your dog.

In the southeast of Columbia is the Grindstone Natural Area, which has the largest off-leash area on the list of dogs, at 200 acres. Explore the Grindstone Nature Trail, which passes through forests and fields. Climb to the top of Lost Hill for a fantastic view or let your pup frolic in the canal, which is fully licensed. However, the Hankson Creek Trail, which also runs through the natural area, is all roped off. When your dog is tired from all the excitement, climb the cliff at Capen Park for some alone time and a great view.

Stephens Lake Park is one of the few places where dogs and humans are not allowed, although leashes are required. Walk along the beach with Fido, get his feet wet, then walk around the lake and even above (look at the walkway that meets the island in the middle ). After treating your dog to an outdoor adventure, treat yourself to a round at the Columbia Country Club, after spending some time in the North Village. Here you can grab a bite to eat at Shakespeare’s Pizza Downtown or Flat Branch Pub and Brewing (dogs allowed) and catch a show at the Blue Note or Canvas On Broadway (no dogs allowed).

Broemmelsiek Park in Defiance, Missouri, is a rural retreat that offers solitude and one-on-one time with you and your four-legged best friend. While dogs are not allowed in the park’s lake, there is a 4.7-acre fenced dog park with a pool and beach. After he has worked out some of his strength, take him for a leashed walk around the rest of Brummelsick Park; There are more than 400 acres to explore and many trails. You can return at night to stargaze in the astronomical area. If you want to explore a larger area, go to Weldon Spring Conservation Area and Howell Island Conservation Area. Rent a boat at Float Missouri River and go on an adventure with your pet (some rentals allow this). A nearby park, Peace Park, has many historical sites such as Thomas Jefferson’s old stone and the Francis Quadrangle. Even better, you can take your dog with you as long as you walk outside and clean up after him. I should note that our next stops are to visit family and friends (St. Louis, Kansas City, and Denver). We did some dog friendly activities, but mostly we relaxed and hung out with some lovely people who opened their homes to us and made our trip even better. I am so grateful to everyone who shared their homes with me and Oates and supported us throughout this journey.

After Ohio, we spent another 8 hours a day driving to St. Louis went to visit my aunt, who lives out of town. It was great to spend time with him, especially since I had never visited him in Missouri before. I usually see him at family events, but this is a good time for us to spend time together. He treated me to delicious food and wine and introduced Oats to “Dog Day Summer” in St. We had a lot of fun. Thanks again Aunt Dot!

I honestly don’t plan to do much “sightseeing” in this trip, but I really want to see the St. Louis Gateway Arch When my aunt told me (I don’t know how?) that her goal was to become the “Gate of the West”, we never missed her. If it’s the essence of western exploration, then it’s pretty much our trip.

The park was very friendly, but it was almost 30 degrees and very humid, even though we went there in the morning. The oats took about 45 minutes before being reheated.

After Oate warmed up a bit (again – see our post on Ohio!), I did a quick search for a place where he could cool off. I found a dog adventure park, so I called and talked to the owner directly. He said there are some great places where he can cool off, just not really swim (I also checked out the dive site at the St. Louis Pier, but when I called they were already closing the pool behind Labor Day) – but it’s good enough for me, as long as it’s patient.

A Guide To Pet-friendly Vacations In Every State

Treecourt is amazing and I recommend it to anyone visiting (or living near) St. Louis. Lots of friendly dogs with their owners, two small ponds with running water to cool off in, lots of places to run and explore and a small lake because obviously this area is famous for them mineral water. Oatmeal is the dog version of a day spa and I have met many sweet dog owners.

We are particularly lucky in this. We visited St. Louis the day after Labor Day, so my aunt told me that many of the city’s lakes are now open to dogs. There were probably 50 to 60 dogs and Oats was swimming and chasing toys all the time. I think they do a few more pool days in September, but I’m glad we showed up on a day when most pools are open to dogs. I didn’t take my camera into the pool, which was smart because I got wet when I got out, but here’s a little cell phone video of him swimming.

Here are three little points from our St. Louis Instagram feed, so you can see a little more of our cute visit!

My aunt also has a beautiful butterfly garden and raises monarchs at her house to release in the wild every year. There were about 8 of them on the clay when I was there, but we also saw a group of butterflies in his garden, so I had to take a picture. Sometimes I’ll shoot something other than oatmeal…sometimes.
