Dog Friendly Resorts Michigan

Dog Friendly Resorts Michigan

Dog Friendly Resorts Michigan – Located on the tip of Michigan’s pole, Port Austin is one of the lesser-known gems in the entire state, and it’s dog-friendly too! You can spend the day wading in the clear blue waters on more than 3 miles of sandy beach in nearby Port Crescent State Park, or walk more than 18 miles of forest trails that stretch over sand dunes and offer views of amazing water

Dogs are allowed on the section of beach near the mouth of the Pinnebog River, which is accessed via a steel bridge that connects the hiking trails closest to the campground. Pets must be kept on a leash and it is important to remember to clean up after your pet too!

One of our favorite backyards for dogs, Pak’s Backyard, is located right in Port Austin! They have a great selection of Michigan craft beers, great bar food, and a great atmosphere. They often have live music so you can enjoy dinner and a drink right on the water with your bag after a long day at the beach!

Torch Lake Pet-friendly Vacation Rentals

A few hours away along the shores of Lake Huron is one of our favorite stops, Tawas Point! This dog beach is one of the only beaches in Michigan that is actually fenced, so dogs can run off-leash in a designated area. The campground is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your dog for a fun summer weekend!

Boathouse Brewery Company & Boozery is another great stop where you can dine on the patio with your pets. Located in the center of Tawas, it offers great food and drink and is across the street from another small park that is also dog friendly!

If you are looking for a unique experience to enjoy with your dog in Michigan, Mackinac Island is IT. Board one of the dog ferries – Star Line or Shipler – to travel to a car-free island – a unique experience! Once there, you can explore more than 70 miles of trails and viewpoints, dine at one of the many local restaurants, and even explore historic Fort Holmes with your dog. Many shops in the city center also allow four-legged visitors – look for the “Dogs Welcome” sign!

There are also three dog-friendly hotels available on Mackinac Island, including Park Place Suites, Sunset Condos, and our favorite Mission Point Resort, which also has a great dog-friendly patio!

Home to the famous Pictured Rocks National Park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Manistee is another Northern Michigan gem, and yes, you can bring your dogs with you! There are a few places in the park that allow dogs, including Sand Point Beaches, Munising Falls Trail, Miner’s Falls Trail, Miner’s Beach, Lake Superior Overlook and Beach, and Sable Falls Trail and Beach.

While the North Country Scenic Trail and all Backcountry campgrounds/campgrounds are unfortunately closed to pets, all three campgrounds in the area, including Little Beaver Lake, Twelvemile Beach, and Hurricane River Campgrounds, allow dogs.

Also located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Marquette is one of my favorite places on Earth and definitely a place you should put on your bucket list to explore with your dog. It is located directly on the shore of Lake Superior with mountains and incredible views. There are many hidden gems to see.

The Ultimate Guide To Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals In Michigan

When we visit, we stay right at the Staybridge Inn and Suites, which is located downtown. The rooms are great with pet amenities and the dogs love a pampering change from their usual camping adventures. Staybridge Inn and Suites is a great hotel chain to visit in other cities – we’ve stayed at several along the way and they’re always a treat!

You can hike to one of the many waterfalls in the area, and if you’re brave enough, you can jump to Dead River Falls, a moderate but short 2.7 mile trip. If you’re looking for a bird’s eye view of the water, visit Sugarloaf Mountain or Hogback Mountain, both of which are moderate climbs, but well worth it once you get to the top!

After a day of hiking, visit the dog friendly patio at Ore Dock Brewing. They have a wide range of house drinks and last year when we visited they even had some fizzy drinks which were great too! If you’re lucky, you’ll find Dia De Los Tacos parked outside – these tacos are so good, we’ll be running this food truck wherever it is all day!

Traverse City has been ranked as one of the best small cities in the United States, and it certainly lives up to the hype. It is also very dog friendly and we make sure to visit at least once a year! The greater Traverse City area is one of Michigan’s premier wine regions, with more than 40 different wineries on the peninsula. Go out for a day of wine tasting and take your dog to some of our favorite spots like Mari Vineyards, Left Foot Charley and Bonobo, all of which welcome visitors with dogs!

Pet Friendly Cottages & Rooms

If you’re looking for a snack, visit the downtown gas station for some of the best pizza we’ve ever eaten, or The Little Fleet, a collection of dog-friendly food trucks. They also have great craft cocktails in the main building!

Whether you want to hike or visit one of the famous blue water beaches, the Good Harbor Bay Trail and Beach is pet friendly and will not disappoint! It’s a 2.7-mile loop with little traffic that leads to a quiet, sandy beach. Leashed dogs are welcome on the loop and on the beach, as long as they are cleaned up afterwards.

If you want to explore Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Park, be sure to visit Beulah and the surrounding area! Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on some trails during the summer due to the endangered lakeshore piping plover, but from December 1 to March 31, more trails in the park will be accessible.

Pets are allowed on leashes year-round at some quiet beaches, including Elberta Beach, which is usually less crowded because Mother Nature takes care of itself, and Peterson Road Beach, known for its great views. of Empire Bluff and Sleeping Bear Point. And even South Manitou Island on clear days.

Traveling With Pets To Michigan’s Thumbcoast

Leashed animals are also allowed in many of the campgrounds near the park, but be sure to visit Sleeping Bear NPS before you go!

Another of our favorite places in the area is the Iron Fish Distillery. The property is beautiful and there are quite a few things to do and try, including their maple syrup, spirit flights and my favorite wood fired pizza!

When you go, be sure to ask the locals about their favorite places! From Michigan’s thumb to the United States, the West Coast, and everything in between, there’s plenty to explore—and yes, you should bring the dogs!
