However, there is one important member that can often be left behind when you’re on the road: the four-legged friends in your life. However, there is no need to leave your dog with a friend or at a kennel when you plan your next UK holiday. They can accompany you on walks, bike rides, city tours and even boat trips, ensuring an enjoyable and memorable holiday without leaving them at home.

10 Best Dog-friendly Staycation Destinations

From seaside hotels to secluded chalets and cottages in the Cotswolds, the UK has plenty of dog-friendly places and pet-friendly options. Here’s a selection of the best—just keep in mind a few services and a disclaimer.

One of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes, the Lake District is an outdoor haven and offers dogs (and their owners) hundreds of opportunities for short walks, long walks and challenging hikes. Most roads between villages are easy to walk and pets are unlikely to drown along the way.

Mire House Farm, located near Keswick Market, has a variety of shepherd’s huts and glamping sites overlooking the North Fells. It’s one of several dog-friendly properties with a small walled garden and dozens of acres of green space, ideal for a stroll with your little one or a short stroll. The nearby village of Threlkeld also has several pet-friendly pubs.

This cozy cabin features a private hot tub, elegant wood interiors and an outdoor seating area, making it the perfect choice for couples looking to unwind with our furry friend.

Dog Friendly Accommodation, Places To Visit, Places To Eat And Services

Although Cornwall’s Fistral Coast is known as a surfer’s paradise, on calm days this 750m stretch of golden sand becomes a dog paradise on earth, with plenty of room to run around. If you visit Newquay, there are dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafes, and your furry friends will also enjoy activities such as a steam train ride or fishing in the Lappa Valley.

Hotel Esplanade overlooks Fistral and offers accommodation with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. There are dog beds and toys, as well as dishes such as fish and chips or a special doggie tapas menu with roast dinners.

With spacious rooms, a spa and pool, and easy access to the beach, this Cornwall hotel is a place for all the family – with a special emphasis on ‘making memories’, with offers for surf lessons and similar family activities.

Snowshill Manor Farm is part of the estate of Charles Paget Wade, renowned for his eclectic collections (National Trust).

Dog Friendly Hot Tub Lodge Holidays

The Cotswolds have all the walks and beautiful scenery of the Lake District, but they’re even more beautiful. Here rolling hills and similar green acres surround pretty villages with honey-colored houses, with plenty of opportunities for walks, including peaceful riverside walks in villages such as Bibury and Burton-on-the-Water.

Snowshill Manor, part of a larger estate, is a National Trust property in the small village of Snowshill (near Broadway). It’s a “true walker’s paradise” with dozens of dog-friendly trails, including part of the 102-mile Cotswold Way, but visitors can also visit nearby Stratford-upon-Avon or Chipping Campden. The cottage has a cozy, modern interior with a bar and wood-burning fireplace for guests to warm up; There is enough space for two dogs, meaning this home can be rented by large groups.

Brighton is one of the UK’s most dog-friendly cities. There are plenty of walking routes around the city, its beaches and parks such as Pavilion Gardens and the nearby South Downs, but Brighton also has dog-friendly businesses, including several pubs and cafes.

You can take your pup for a walk along the waterfront on the Wolf Electric Railway, or head to dog-friendly events in the city, such as the Dogtember events at Saltdian Lido (where dogs and owners can swim for four day sessions on weekends until September 9 and October 1).

Grand Brighton is one of the best dog-friendly places in the city. Dogs can be booked in any room and receive a welcome pack including a blanket, water bowl and treats. Although pets are not allowed in the main restaurant or on the terrace, they are welcome to join you for a fireside dinner in the Victoria Lounge and Bar.

Yorkshire is another county ideal for family holidays with dogs, with idyllic villages and seaside towns offering owners several ways to fill their day. Whitby is one such town, located on the coast but just a few miles from the border of the North York Moors National Park, so the choice is between nature walks or running on sand and sea.

The Egton Estate is located on the outskirts of Moor and is set in 6,000 acres of unspoilt countryside. With acres of wetlands and a mile of river running through it, it’s a good place to take a (well-behaved) dog, where the owner can play with their rescue dogs (and collect organic treats).

Your four-legged friend can go fishing or shooting with you, and part of the coast-to-coast walking route passes through Egton. For dinner you can use the barbecue facilities or visit the Horseshoe’s own pub.

Dog Friendly Cottages

The Ayrshire countryside features acres of green hills and lush woodland surrounding small villages, and Ayr is a popular Scottish seaside resort for day trips (promenade walks and dog walks on the beach abound).

But if you really want to go off the beaten path with your own wilderness, stay at the cabins at Mount Liberty. Nestled in the hills overlooking the cliffs of Carrick Beach, these three cottages offer a relaxing holiday with panoramic views of the water and the Isle of Arran. Dogs will love running around the nearby beaches or forests, and they can sit with you while you dine in Anchorage at the nearby pub in Dunure Village. When it’s time to wind down, they’ll appreciate the fireplace as much as you do (though they might not enjoy the hot tub or the view as much).

In addition to excellent reviews (all of which have four or more stars out of five), all of the hotels listed below are dog-friendly. The Lake District has unique country resorts that offer pet-friendly walks right on the doorstep, but we also have city stay options, including a rare pet-friendly hotel in the heart of London.

Dog Friendly Accommodation In Chester & Cheshire

Over the past two years, we have completed the hotels that we have entered into. Prices shown are Saturday evening (peak price) and correct at time of publication. All results are 5.

A few weeks before our trip, we were asked to order breakfast and download an app to “plan our route.” A long list on a chalkboard in the lobby of the bright white Georgian house confirms the feeling that this is a hotel for those who want to have a good time in the most beautiful place in the world. There are hiking, kayaking, stargazing and other ways to enjoy the magnificent Ullswater. But even if you’re not the kind of person who can predict what time you’ll want eggs and bacon a month before you wake up, you’ll have a great time here.

We loved the Living Space lounge and dining room, with its bright, modern pine floors and floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the Lake District. Even better is the swimming pool with views of the hills across the lake. The library, flooded with light through the French doors, is another temptation to just sit and take a leisurely stroll. Friendly, friendly service goes above and beyond
