We all need to get away from time to time. Even the most KonMarried among us can be stressful, and a vacation provides an opportunity to step away from the routine and recharge. A dog? Well, the daily load is not the same. (Thank God, right? That’s one of the things that makes dogs so magical!) But lots of dogs get bored. Although your dog is never bored, he loves you and loves the opportunity to bond and play!
Planning An Adventure Vacation With Your Pet?
One caveat: this is planning a vacation around your dog. In 2006, we were able to take Em anywhere, and she loved sitting in a pet-friendly enclosure, receiving attention and treats. He can walk to a winery and be happy. If your dog is like that, great! You can do anything on your puppy vacation!
Cooper, though… Cooper isn’t like that at all. Public places stress you out. Every time I take him out to exercise in the yard, he gets so excited that he won’t accept any treats, even if I order him something delicious like an egg on his plate! This type of vacation can only be fun, enriching and intimate. However, he likes to exercise. He likes to run. He likes to walk. He loves a physical challenge, which we haven’t been able to do since Violet arrived, so we decided to take him on longer and more challenging walks this year on Coop’s holiday than in years past. . .
So we found a pet friendly cabin rental near the park we wanted to visit and headed back!

Holidays With Your Dog
Planning your vacation around your dog means you can do fun things together outside of the house! 🙂 It’s a great way to bond, have fun, and start new adventures. You’ll cherish the memories you made together and have a lot of fun – that’s all that matters!

Whether you’re traveling for a week or six months, there are three main options for taking your dog on vacation. Someone in your home can care for your dog, take your dog to someone else’s home, or pick up your dog. What you do with them depends on how long you travel, how much money you spend, and how much you trust others to take care of your family.
For us, keeping cats at home and hiring them for short trips works well. Even if we ask a neighbor to babysit, if our friends have kids and are busy with work, it’s easier for us to hire someone because it’s a burden.
She Knows How To Relax 😩
The main disadvantage of hiring a babysitter is that it is quite expensive. $20 per visit is pretty standard and can add up on longer trips. Professional pet sitters are usually very reliable (but check references carefully) and know how to care for animals. Our pet sitters are trained and insured in pet first aid. The pet sitter visits the cat once a day and the dog twice a day.
Note: Although they are not professionals, we know many people who have been able to find reliable family nannies and house sitters.
Before dear Kitty passed away, we went on a short tour among pet professionals. We found a lovely sitter and it was wonderful that our old cat was in such good hands while we were gone. He came to our house several times a day to play with him, feed him and even update him on how he was doing.
Another option is Rover. We haven’t tried the Rover yet, but I’ll be helping my mom find seats for her cats in a few weeks. Rover is your site for dog sitters, day care providers and pet sitters. It was originally built for dogs, hence the name Rover, but there are plenty of cat houses.
When Dogs Travel
Want to stream your favorite shows on the go? It’s frustrating not being able to access a country’s website when we travel.
To overcome this, we use a VPN while traveling. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) can be installed on a smartphone, tablet, computer or laptop. It protects your privacy when connected to public Wi-Fi and lets you stream your favorite TV shows right from home.
Since pet sitters usually live in your home full-time, your pets will theoretically receive the same level of care that you would give them. Pets receive constant supervision and care.
You should feel comfortable that the nanny lives in your home while you are away and that she has full access to your belongings. This is usually a reasonable option because you are selling pet-friendly accommodation, but some sitters charge extra. Perhaps the largest and most popular place to find homes and pets is Trusted Housewives.

Many pet owners will take care of their pets at home. Usually, a pet sitter has several pets that your dog can keep company with. A pet sitter will understand the risks of bringing a new pet into your home and know how to care for them. Depending on the size of your business, they may have a dedicated kennel or live with them as part of the family.
Our cat Cosmo stayed with Mickey’s mom during the trip. She loved everything from daily baths at Grandma’s cat spa, adorable edible cat treats, lounging in the sun, and chasing mice in the tall grass. Two words – Cat heaven. We used to ask him to come home. 🙂 Cosmo recently passed away at the age of 20, but it was great to have him in good hands when we left.
Your dog should already be familiar with the place and the person, so this can be a great option, especially if your dog knows your sitter and the dog. Since you already know them, trust shouldn’t be an issue. If you will be caring for your dog outside of your home, this may be the cheapest option.
Professional services must be knowledgeable about animals and how to care for them. These services have the equipment and staff to take good care of your dog. However, your dog may be kept in a cage longer than you would like. That being said, there are some excellent facilities out there. Be sure to check references and even consider keeping your dog on a short trial. Almost all major cities have many dog kennels, but cats and other pets are also accepted.
Should You Take Your Dog On Vacation? What You Need To Know
Many veterinarians have boarding facilities where they provide animal care on a daily basis. This may be an ideal situation if your dog has health issues or if you are concerned about your dog’s health. Many veterinarians work in animal clinics and can take in dogs, cats, birds, and turtles.
Asking volunteers to help care for your dog is a reasonable option, as you are only responsible for food and supplies, but a small stipend can also be appreciated. You can find volunteers who care about shelters and humane societies. The volunteers love animals and your dog will be in their care along with other animals.
If you are traveling by car or planning to stay in one place for a long time, taking your dog can be a good option. Know the border requirements for pets entering a new country. Some countries, such as England, have longer quarantine periods for animals entering the country.
