For excellent hiking opportunities, drive two miles up the road to the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. Get a $5 ticket or grab your Northwest Forest Pass and hike the pet-friendly 6.5 miles to Cape Perpetua Rock Shelter. Built in the 1930s, it is located 800 meters from the raging waters. The views here are fascinating.

Back at the visitor center, be sure to check out the fascinating spectacles overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Devil’s Churn, Thor’s Well, and Cook’s Chasm at Spouting Horn. For a shorter hike, try Route 804, which connects seven miles of beaches between Yachats and Waldport.
Yachats has delicious dining options to whet your appetite. Start your day with coffee and pastries at Green Salmon, one of the best small coffee shops on the entire Oregon Coast. All of their teas and coffees are fair trade and organic, and feature creative products like Kashmir Express with cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg.
This is Oregon, so of course there’s a local brewery. Pour a pint (or two) at Yachats Brewing, a sustainable brewery celebrating the beauty and culture of Yachats with a pet-friendly outdoor patio.
There are several camping options nearby, but not directly in the city. You can camp at Cape Perpetua to access the trails. If you want to be in the center of the action, consider The Fireside on Route 804.

This route runs along the northern Oregon coast, passing Cape Lookout and Cape Meares state parks and passing through several small towns.
Walk or run along the beach at Cape Kiwanda Natural Area and Bob Straub State Park to the tip of Nestuka Spit. Stop to look at some tide pools or try to spot the boats bringing in the day’s catch. Finish with a steep Cape Kiwanda sand dune. The views of the city and the coast are worth the effort. Then, run down the hill with your dog for a real thrill.
Satisfy your hunger and thirst at Pelican Brewing, one of Oregon’s most popular breweries. Here you can sit outside with your pup and enjoy the view of the grassy cliff and the Pacific Ocean. Go at break time as the wait for a table can be long in high season. If you like Mexican food, don’t miss Ben & Jeff’s, where you can enjoy tacos and burritos on the patio or take them to the beach.
