Dog Friendly Resorts Vancouver Island – Vancouver Island is located west of Vancouver and can only be reached by car (you can take your real one on board to help you get around when you arrive) or by plane. When I first looked to go there, I saw that it was in transit time (so you know) and when we crossed the peak, it was very expensive, not much more than the cost of the trip on the boat. When I first started planning my trip to Vancouver Island, I wanted to stay in Victoria and have a dog-friendly apartment there. Sometime in my research I came across the Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke, a pet friendly hotel. Having stayed at the Prestige Resort several times over the years, I knew that I could trust the hotel and that Mya would love to stay there.

Sooke is 30 minutes from Victoria, away from the busy roads, but still has all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Talking to some locals they told me that they used to live in Victoria but decided to go to Sooke to get away from the crowd. That’s exactly how I felt when I was in the city, a little beach escape.

When I first arrived at the Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke I was pleasantly surprised. When you look at the building, you would be mistaken for a palace, not a hotel. A large architectural weatherboard is suitable for a coastal location.
The hotel has everything you need including a restaurant, swimming pool, solarium, fitness center, large outdoor area and beautiful water. I enjoyed eating in the restaurant throughout my stay and the service I received was excellent (I’m Australian, it’s a nice person who knows what I’m talking about) and it was very tasty.
The balcony has a beautiful view of the sea and the surrounding gardens, while we visited, they were preparing for a wedding.
Our room was simple, but spacious and clean. There are two queen bedrooms, a closet, fridge, TV, lots of storage space and a great room. Because I have Mya, I have been given a pet bed and a food and water bowl. I believe there are many pet friendly rooms available in the hotel, so if you want to stay there, you should make a reservation early and let them know to reserve one of these rooms for you.

I was told that Mya was allowed to accompany me everywhere in the resort, except when food and drink were being served (this is British Columbia health regulations). The accommodation fee is $40 per night for cleaning, but there is no additional care and parking is free.
Unfortunately for us, all the activities we wanted didn’t allow Mya to be with us, and I had to do dog sitting in the afternoon. There are many options in Victoria and Sooke that can be easily found on Google. I wasn’t impressed with the experience, so I won’t say who we went to, but you should be able to find someone for $25 for half a day.
We spent the morning swimming in Sooke East from Sooke Harbor, right next to Sooke’s prestigious Oceanfront Resort. While visiting Vancouver Island, we will walk downtown Victoria and explore the beautiful architecture of the British city. There are many restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops if you want to explore. After a tip I stopped at the Canoe Brew Pub which is now open and free. Unfortunately, the patio is not dog friendly due to British Columbia health regulations, but you can close them so you can see them.

It is said that Vancouver Island is one of the first places in North America to see whales in their natural habitat. I was lucky enough to go whale watching for the first time there with Eagle Wing Tours. Tours depart from Victoria and travel 3-4 hours. Eagle Wing Tours has three different boats that they offer as a group, one is completely open and the other two have cabins and bathrooms on board. They usually see humpback whales or orcas. However, these tricks are not dog friendly, so if you want to try them, you should prepare some dog care.
The sailors on the boat were great, we even got to borrow warm clothes, and they were very knowledgeable and curious about the area and the different marine animals. We were lucky enough to see the mother and the calf. First of all we saw five humpback whales, which I had never seen before. It is very interesting to see amazing creatures in their natural environment. The best thing about Eagle Wing Tours is that they understand the importance of protecting the environment and their property and the rest of the community. That’s why you share the journey with them and contribute part of the cost of the journey to various conservation funds. Tours range from $85-135 per person.
While exploring Sooke we stopped by the Sooke Pot Holes which are only a 10-15 minute ride from the Prestige Oceanfront Resort of Sooke. The area is dog friendly, but dogs must be on a lead and people should remember that there are black bears in the area. It’s a beautiful place & I hear it’s a great place to swim in the summer. I was a little cold going in, but Mya didn’t want to go and seemed to be enjoying herself. You can see the potholes from the side by looking at the top, and there are many different walkways that you can go down to swim.
We had a great trip south of Vancouver Island, but I’ve heard of some great places to visit in Tofino, so add a few days to your trip and hit up Sooke there too. and Victoria.
