Pet-friendly resorts are a lot of fun because of the amenities they offer. In some cases, there are packages that offer you even more.

Dog-friendly Grand Rapids

When it comes to pet-friendly accommodations, they often offer something a little special for your dog. This can be a huge benefit if you don’t want to deal with finding places to eat, things to do, etc. that allow pets. and you simply want to immerse yourself in everything the resort has to offer.

It’s also a great way to introduce you and your dog to dog-friendly travel, as you’ll be staying at a dog-friendly resort and they’ll tell you exactly where you can or can’t take your dog.

One downside to friendly resorts is that they tend to be expensive. Whether you think the cost is up to you, but in some cases a dog-friendly package can be worth it in popular locations like Mackinac Island, where you’ll still pay a pretty penny for the hotels you pay for.

Additionally, unless you’re camping (where most dogs are welcome at no extra charge), you’ll pay a standard pet fee, usually a daily rate.

So, for example, the pet fee at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island is $100 per stay. If you stay there for 4 nights, the fee will be $25 per day. Just down the island at the Quality Inn, the pet fee is $25 per day, less for convenience and amenities. Don’t worry, quality hotel, I’m just using you to figure it out. You know what I mean?

Another way to save money on a resort vacation is to go out of season or when they offer certain promotional packages.

If you don’t want to burn a hole in your wallet, then for the love of your dog, don’t go to Mackinac Island or Traverse City in June or July.

I’ve already talked about this in a few posts, but it’s at the top of the list for a reason.

Pet Friendly Activities In The New Buffalo, Mi Area

Mission Point Resort is one of the only pet-friendly resorts on the island. Not only do they allow dogs, but they welcome them with open arms. They have a resident dog on site, Nick Collie, who you can follow on Instagram @nickatthepoint.

Currently the pet fee is $100 per stay. They also offer a pet-friendly package called Pooch on the Point, which includes a two-night stay, pet fee, breakfast, ferry tickets, and amenities for your dog.

The Homestead is located near Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and has several different types of accommodations.

The really nice thing about Homestead is that the pet fee is included in the price at the time of booking. The special pet rooms are a little difficult to reserve, so I would call to make a reservation.

Bring Your Best Friend On These Pet Friendly Vacations In Michigan

Fiddler’s Pond Inn offers pet-friendly rooms. They have limited quantities so it is necessary to reserve in advance.

When you’re a Homestead guest, you’ll receive exclusive benefits like unlimited pool access, hot tubs, kayak and canoe rentals, golf course discounts, priority spa reservations, and more. Check out all the amenities here.

Pets are allowed at Crystal Mountain Resort, although there are no special pet packages. It lists exactly where in the resort your dog is not allowed to go, which is very helpful.

Crystal Mountain is known for its winter skiing, two world-class golf courses, a spa, and a variety of other winter and summer activities.

Another popular ski resort, Boyne Mountain Resort, is located south of Petoskey. We were without Kirby last year in the fall and enjoyed the heated pool and chairlift. We also played golf at the mountain golf course, which was a beautiful course. They also have another course, Monument, which is said to be more difficult.

Like the resorts mentioned above, they also have a spa and offer winter and summer activities and facilities.

In terms of friendship with animals, they are probably less flexible. They have a selection of pet-friendly rooms that can only be booked by phone. Pet fee is $25 for the first night and $10 for each night thereafter up to a maximum of $150.

It may not be the most popular on this list, but Portage Point Resort has been around since 1903. It has an interesting history as part of the Michigan State Legislature in 1897 to build shrines after the logging industry ceased.

Best Michigan Summer Vacation Spots

The resort consists of several hotels and cabins on the shores of Portage Lake with access to Lake Michigan. It is under renovation but is open for reservations.

Pets are welcome at select properties and can only be booked online. A pet cleaning fee of $25 per night will be added to your reservation. Check their policies here.

I am an architect by day, a writer by night and I travel whenever I can. It’s all done with the grace of God, coffee, a to-do list, and a soundtrack from a Broadway musical. I currently live in Michigan with my husband and mini-golendoodle Kirby.

75 additions 34 comments 15 ratings Swoon Reads was a great experience. One that I will do again with another story. I’m not sure if Sweet Enough was the right story for Swoon Reads, but I appreciate every one of these additions, comments, and ratings. Sweet Enough will be on Swoon Reads for another season (its next pick will probably be at the end of February), so if you’ve been wanting to read it, now’s the time! I’m not sure where this book is. Whether it will be self-published or included is still up in the air, but it’s definitely something I don’t want to pass up. Link in bio to read it for free! I love it! With over 3 miles of sandy beaches adjacent to Port Hill State Park, you can spend the day in the crystal blue waters or hike over 18 miles of wooded trails that open over the lakes for stunning water views.

Dogs are allowed on a stretch of beach near the Pinnebog River, which can be accessed via a steel bridge that connects to hiking trails closest to the campground. Pets should be kept on their feet and don’t forget to clean up after your dog too!

One of our favorite yards, Pak’s Yard is also located in Port Austin! They have a great selection of Michigan craft beers, great bar food, and a great atmosphere. They often have live music so you can enjoy dinner and drinks with your takeout after a long day at the beach on the water!

Most Dog Friendly States In America: All 50 Ranked In 2024

Just a few hours away on the shores of Lake Huron is another favorite stop: Tawas Point! This dog beach is one of the only beaches in Michigan that is fenced, where dogs can run freely off leash in a designated area. The campground is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your dog for a fun summer getaway.

Boathouse Beer Co. & Boozery is another great stop where you can dine with your pets on the patio. Located in the center of Tavas, they have great food and drink, and just across the road is another small park that is also dog friendly.

If you’re looking for a unique experience you can enjoy with your dog in Michigan, Mackinac Island is it. Board one of the dog-friendly Star Line or Shepler ferries to travel to the uninhabited island. It is a unique experience! Then, you can explore more than 70 miles of trails and overlooks, dine at one of the many local dog-friendly restaurants, and even explore Fort Holmes with your dog. Many stores in the center also allow it.
