Best Dog Friendly Accommodation Jindabyne – Unfortunately, the Snowy Mountains in the NSW high country are not the best dog destinations. Since most of the ski parks and attractions are located in the Kosciuszko National Park, there are not many places that are dog friendly.
However, it is possible to stay at your own pace in Jindabyne or outside the national park and enjoy this mountain region. Here are my tips for visiting Jindabyne with your dog…

So, considering that dogs are not allowed to enjoy the hiking and skiing areas of Kosciuszko National Park, what are the dog-friendly things to do in Indiana and the Snowy Mountains?

In the snowy mountains, the most reliable snow is found in the ski areas of Thredbo, Perisher, Charlotte Pass and Selwyn, especially where there is little natural snow and ski park operators have to rely on man-made snow. Although none of these ski resorts allow dogs, they are not the only places in the Snowy Mountains to enjoy snow.
When it snows at lower altitudes during the cold season, you can also get snow in the nearby town of Jindabyne – maybe once or twice a year. Even if the snow isn’t enough for skiing or snowboarding, sometimes playing in the snow with your pup is fun enough!
Kosciuszko National Park has some of the most famous snowshoe walks, especially on several hiking trails that lead to Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak. However, there are some great walks around Jindabyne.
The easy walk is a paved road and cycle path that starts at Banjo Patterson Park in central Jindabyne and continues for 3.5km to Discovery Parks – Jindabyne caravan park (no dogs allowed), near the Thredbo turnoff .
High Ground Estate
A beautiful walk along the shores of Lake Jindaby, the route also passes through Jindaby’s only dog training area, at the Klaipets Recreation Area. If you have done the whole walk, keep your dog off the lead.
Lake Jindaby was created in the 1960s as part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Power Scheme and is now a popular trout fishing destination. The lake is one of the largest freshwater reservoirs in all of NSW, and has large populations of White Trout and Rainbow Trout, as well as Atlantic Salmon.
Fishing is very popular during the hot summer months. It is possible to fish from the shore, but it is better to go out on the lake by boat. If you do not have your own boat and equipment, you can rent a boat and fishing equipment from a number of shops around Jindaby. And of course, your dog agrees to join you, perhaps wearing his own jacket.
Lake Jindaby is not the only lake with good fishing in the region, Lake Eukumben is also a popular fishing spot.
East Jindabyne Vacation Rentals & Homes
There are several breweries and even some wineries around Jindaby, so in the Snowy Mountains, there’s no excuse not to try your hand at local brews.
Jindabyne Bakery is located on the western edge of the city and is open Wednesday to Sunday. Pets are allowed, as well as a small menu, from steaks to schnitzel (including vegetarian options).
Kosciuszko Brewery is located in the grand Banjo Patterson Inn, right next to the lake. Although dogs are not allowed to visit the brewery, their famous Kosciuszko Pale Ale is served at several on-site bars, and dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables.
Or, head out of town to Snowy Vineyards and Microbrewery, home of Dalgety Brewing Company. It is a 40-minute drive from Jindabyne, but critics unanimously say that it is worth the trip, especially for the ginger cider.

Dogs are welcome, and probably will be, with Sadie, who lives on the farm. Usually open from Wednesday to Sunday, there is also a restaurant. The last part of the fort, which is best accessed via the Bulgundara Road, remains unopened.
A 25 minute drive from Jindabyne in the center of Berridale is the gateway to the wineries. A small wine producer in the Clare Valley and Snowy Mountains, their Berrydale cellar door is located alongside Little Food. Take your pick, then sit in the dog-friendly garden with a glass of wine and a plate of nibbles.
Although dogs are not allowed in Kosciuszko National Park, it is fine to drive through the national park with your dog, as long as you do not stop along the way. If you drive through the park without stopping, you don’t have to pay to enter.
From Jindabyne, it’s a 110km drive along the Alpine Road to Hanko, near the Victorian border. I thought the most amazing part of the drive was the first half, passing Thredbo, still high in the November snow, and then through the Mist-covered range of Roinmore.

The entire drive to Hankoban takes almost 2 hours, where you can stop for a break or lunch. There aren’t many options in Hankoban, so you can go on a picnic for lunch.
Once in Hankoband, you can return to Jindabyne by the same route, or take the longer route through Kiandra. .
Allow about 80 minutes to drive from Hankoban to Kiandra, at the junction with the Snowy Mountains Highway. Then drive another 90 minutes back to Jindabyne. The total driving time for the trip is approximately 4 hours 40 minutes.
Note that some of these roads are closed during the winter, and snow chains may be required on other roads. Riding is best in the warmer months of the year.
Dog-friendly Snowy Mountains, Nsw: Visiting With A Dog
Jindabyne has two dog training areas, perfect for letting off some energy or relaxing.
The first course is in the recreation area of Klaipet, on the west side of the city, in the same area as the disc golf course. Certain signs are outside the protected area, and the dog must be kept outside of them.
There are also secondary dog breeds on the shores of Pooh Bay. It is located on the south side of Cobbon Moon, on the east side of the city. See the council’s website for a map of both areas.
While in Jindabyne, we ate at the Park Cafe near the Snowy Region Visitor Centre. The cafe has several large tables outside where dogs are allowed.
Dog Friendly Winter Activities In Sydney
A very popular place, you may have to wait a while to get a table outside when it’s busy. Open daily for breakfast and lunch, the cafe is also a great place to enjoy great coffee and freshly brewed tea.
The Birch Cafe behind the Snowy Area Visitor Center is a great dog cafe for breakfast. Billed as Edinburgh’s ‘food hub’, the cafe is open daily for breakfast, brunch and lunch and is fully licensed. There are some dog friendly tables outside.

For a year-round toastie option, consider Pender Lee’s. Located on the edge of the national park and 15 minutes from Jindabyne, Crackenback offers a variety of cottages, chalets and cabins, and pets are welcome to stay with you. There are many places to study pets.
Although pets are not allowed to be left unattended, you can pay one of six pets, each with an indoor and outdoor section (complete with heating), for a daily fee.
Another pet-friendly option near Indabain is Touchdown Cottages. The six cottages are set in beautiful bushland, each off the grid and with plenty of privacy. Up to one dog is welcome at the cottage who has been trained and socialized in the house (as well as other dogs and small children).
Tinkersfield has a collection of dog-friendly cottages nearby. Also located in Crackenback, they have tall country cottages that sleep 2-11. Each combines rustic charm with modern conveniences.
