Day Trips With Dogs Brisbane

Day Trips With Dogs Brisbane – While the beaches around Brisbane aren’t as beautiful as those on the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast, there are still some great beaches in the Queensland capital to choose from at some good times.

Along with Moreton Bay, Brisbane City and the Redlands Coast are nine dog beaches. And there are four other beaches on the nearby island, which are not worth the extra effort to reach.

There are five beaches in the Moreton Bay area, north-east of Brisbane. Drive across the bridge to Bribie Island and its beautiful beaches, or choose from four beaches in Moreton Bay.

Arguably the best dog beach near Brisbane is Woorim South Beach, or Bribie Island Dog Beach. This beautiful stretch of golden sand stretches over 4km, between Woorim Beach and Red Beach. And unlike other islands near Brisbane, Bribie Island is connected to the mainland by a bridge, so it’s easy to navigate.

To access the ropeway at Woorim Beach South, it’s easy to get to the end of Lowry St in Woorim. Dogs are allowed off leash right at the entrance, in the sand park. The beach is technically a “boat beach”, but the waves were less than 30cm high on the day I visited. There is also a dog wash near the entrance.

Alternatively, head to Red Beach for a dog-friendly beach experience. The water at Red Beach is sheltered and calm. From the first stop, at first there are a few hundred meters of leash beach only, before the start of the off-leash beach section, which is clearly marked.

On the island of Bribie, there are two dog beaches. At the north end of Woorim Beach, just above the dog no-go area, dogs are allowed to enter at the north end of the North road, which faces north from the 4WD entrance. Also, in Bellara, dogs are allowed on the beach at Sylvan Beach Esplanade between Boronia Drive and Marina Boulevard.

If you turn south on the road to Bribie Island, you will come to the peaceful area of Beachmere. There are two beaches at Beachmere, the north and south ends of the long beach. Both beaches have mudflats, usually visited at low tide.

We visited Beachmere South, labeled “Beachmere Offleash Dog Beach” on Google Maps. The gym starts at the end of Biggs Avenue and continues to the mouth of the Caboolture River, although dogs are prohibited in the mangrove area. There is also a convenient grass park next to the parking lot, perfect for a summer visit.

Looking above, dogs are still allowed on the beach but must remain on a leash until you reach the Beachmere North off-leash gym. It is located between the end of Louise Drive and the north end of Bayside Drive.

If you head south, the next beach outside the Moreton Bay Regional Council area is Deception Bay Foreshore. Like Beachmere North and South, this dog beach is a mud beach, which is frequented at low tide.

Things To Do With Your Dog In Brisbane

The off-leash dog beach is between Wallin Avenue and Joseph Crescent, or just search for “Deception Bay Dog Beach” on Google Maps. When I visited, there was also competition on the sea promenade, but before 8 am and after 4 pm.

After Woorim South Beach, the best dog beach north of Brisbane is probably Queens Beach North. This dog-friendly beach is just outside Scarborough, near Redcliffe.

Dogs are allowed on Queens Beach north of the steps near Griffith Road. At the bottom of the sea they have to stay on a rope. On a busy day it’s easy to pick a way for the dogs in the north!

Unlike most beaches in Moreton Bay, Queens Beach is a sandy desert. It also has rocks near the lower lake.

Dog-friendly Road Trip

Brisbane City’s waterfront is now home to off-leash beaches. For a map of each area, and offline area updates, see the Brisbane City Council website.

The best beach north of Brisbane City is Sandgate Foreshore. A large part of the mud flats around Sandgate and Shorncliffe has been designated as a dog park.

The northern end of the off-leash dog beach begins near the corner of Flinders Parade and Second Avenue. The southern boundary is near the corner of Park Parade and Zeehan Street in Shoncliffe. There are many steps to get down in the mud.

North of Brisbane Airport is Nudgee Beach, home to the Kedron Brook off-leash swimming pool. Location near Tuckeroo Dog Park – search for “Nudgee Beach Dog Park” on Google Maps.

Kedron Brook is very popular with local dog owners. On the Sunday afternoon we visited, there was still a coffee shop and a dogwash van selling in the parking lot. Also, the beach is muddy – don’t wear new shoes! The place is from the mouth of the river and there are waves, so it is better to visit from a higher place.

Note that the dog park near Nudgee Beach itself that was under investigation has been removed, with no plans to reopen it.

The last dog beach in the Brisbane City area is Manly dog beach, located south of Brisbane Airport. This dog beach is small, best visited when underwater, but it is more sand than mud.

The beach is close to Manly Boat Harbour, between the rock walls at the end of Davenport Drive, heading south from the marina. On Google Maps, search for “Inspirational Place” in Man.

Bean And Bark

In the Redland City Council area, there are only two dog beaches on the mainland. However, there are still three other excellent dog beaches on the coast.

Both off-leash beaches in central Redlands Beach are in the Cleveland area. My favorite is the dog beach at Raby Bay Foreshore Park, with its sandy beach.

To find a beach near the park where dogs are allowed off leash, search for “Raby Bay Dog Beach” on Google or keep an eye out for signs. The desert isn’t very big, so it can get crowded on busy days, but it’s still a good size.

Another place to swim with your dog in Cleveland is GJ Walter Park. This large fenced park is located across from Cleveland Point. The easiest way to get there is on the north side, where there is a car park at the end of Shore Street East, rather than on the south side near the ferry terminal.

While GJ Walter Park undoubtedly has beach access, it’s not dog-friendly. The fenced park is surrounded by mangroves on one side, and a mangrove beach.

For many beachgoers on the Redland coast, check out the beach to one of the islands. An easy option to visit is Coochiemudlo Island, which is a quick 10-minute boat ride from Victoria Point on the Amity Trader. Dogs are allowed on board, no extra charge, no leashes required.

When you arrive at the airport on Coochiemudlo Island, it is a short 5 minute walk to the main beach, which is located on the west side of the airport. It is better to walk on the road behind the beach, dogs are not allowed on the sand on both sides of the plane. When you arrive at the marina, the off-leash section starts about 100m further, continues for 200m along the beautiful beach, and the boundaries are clearly marked.

Remember that depending on the time of year, dogs may or may not be allowed to walk on a leash. During the winter, from May to August, dogs are allowed off the leash every day. From November to February, dogs are allowed outside after 5pm and before 9am. However, during spring and autumn, dogs must be kept on a leash every day, because there are migrating birds.

48 Best Dog-friendly Camping Spots In Queensland

South of Coochiemudlo Island is Russell Island, the largest of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. It is also home to an outdoor dog beach, near Lions Boulevard Park, in the southeast of the island.

Like the dog beach on Coochiemudlo Island, the dog beach is closed at certain times of the year. In May and August, dogs are allowed to go out in the water every day, during the summer between November and February, dogs are allowed to go out before 9 am or after 5 pm.

During the whole year (March, April, September, October), dogs are only allowed on a leash, because there are birds in the sea.
