Pet Friendly Resorts Quebec – Looking for a great holiday with your doll this Christmas? Christmas in Quebec is a dog-friendly destination if you love cold, snow and all the Christmas cheer. It’s about a nine-hour drive from New York to Quebec, Canada, and it’s one of the best trips ever!

Despite the long drive, this resort was worth it! You see, Quebec turns into a Christmas village during the holidays, like a Charles Dickens novel; A Christmas Carol. Here’s where to stay, what to do and where to eat with your pup.

We stayed at the dog-friendly Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. Perched high above the St. Lawrence River, this hotel is like a castle in the sky. A five-star luxury hotel, the most photographed hotel in the world! The hotel accepts two pets of any size for a fee of USD 50 per night.

The interior of the hotel is fully decorated for the holidays and the halls are decorated with beautifully decorated Christmas trees. It didn’t take long for us to check in and we were so impressed that Gatsby patiently waited online with us even after a long drive. The hotel staff made sure that Gatsby was well taken care of. He doesn’t eat chips, so we asked the hotel to prepare grilled salmon and meat for him. The staff even asked Gatsby if his salmon was cooked at the right temperature!

The best thing about Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is that they offer dog sitting services! Danny and I reserved a seat when we went out to dinner and went to the dog slide. They charged a minimum of $26 (CAD) per hour for 3 hours for the orphanage to come to our room to see Gatsby. You can leave the babysitter alone in the room or have the babysitter take your dog for a walk and play in the snow park outside the hotel.

We walked with Gatsby on the Dufferin Terrace, the terrace surrounding the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This elevated area offers views of Old Quebec and St. Petersburg. Lawrence River. There is a giant slide at the top of the slide (270 feet high) for people to zoom down the slide at 60 mph! Gatsby stuck around and watched with delight as the people on the slide grew larger!

The German Christmas market is open from November 22nd to December 23rd, and we managed to make it the last day of the festive market. Wandering through the market, we found unique, beautiful handmade items made in Quebec and food like Nuremberg gingerbread, German Christmas cakes and bratwurst, pretzels, wine and more.

The place we checked out was the QuartierPetit Champlain area. It’s the place to be for a vacation and it’s Instagram-worthy! The narrow cobblestone streets here are filled with holiday lights and decorations. I loved going to boutiques and some of them even let Gatsby join me.

Place Royale is just steps away from the Petit Champlain district and we visited Notre-Dame-des-Victoire, the oldest Roman Catholic church in North America.

Start at Place des Canotiers, a landscaped square next to St Lawrence. Gatsby played in the snow here and we marveled at the huge icebergs by the river.

Unfortunately, we were unable to eat at any of the restaurants in the area as there was no outside seating. Restaurants here have outdoor seating in the warmer months, and many people dine outside with their dogs. The only place that offers outdoor seating is the Winter Pub des Borgiain. Although it was freezing, we sat outside because Gatsby was not allowed in the bar. I had a glass of wine and Danny enjoyed a warm bowl of French onion soup.

At the hotel, Danny had a romantic dinner at Bistro Le Sam & Bar Atrium. This restaurant has a spectacular view overlooking the St. Lawrence River. For starters we ordered the duck wings with maple syrup and the Atlantic salmon tartare. Dairy Corn Chicken was the main course and Danny cooked lamb chops. Of course we had plenty of wine and shared a dark chocolate lava cake.

When Danny and I went to the dog bowls on the Expedition Mee Loup, we pet-sat to come see Gatsby. We had to go to Saint-Jean-de-l’Orléans, which is about 20 minutes away from the hotel. If you are not driving here, the hotel can arrange transportation for you. I’ve been wanting to try dog sledding for a long time! You can feel the energy of these dogs when we arrive because they are excited and enthusiastic!

The session started with a safety briefing and driving techniques and then we were off to the forest! I sat on the sled and Danny stood behind me to guide the sled. The experiment lasted about 1 hour and was a 15-minute lesson with the puppies. This experience was exactly what I wanted and I am so grateful to have met these wonderful dogs. If you want to try it out, I recommend that you come prepared with ski boots and pants. I was wearing leg warmers that were definitely not enough to keep my feet warm.

Christmas in Quebec was the perfect holiday destination. We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and loved the winter feel and holiday cheer of the town. No doubt Gatsby feels the same way. Cold weather, snow, ice, grilled salmon and meat cooked at the perfect room temperature, a nanny to entertain and a warm, comfortable king bed. What more could a man want? I’m sure this will be Gatsby’s favorite dog vacation spot for a long time!
