Day Trips With Dogs Southern California

Day Trips With Dogs Southern California – Palm Springs, California is about 100 miles east of Los Angeles in the Sonoran Desert’s Coachella Valley. Palm Springs has been a popular resort town for many years and is known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather, and actually a dog.

Downtown Palm Springs is constantly changing with new shops, restaurants, hotels, and neighborhoods, such as the development of the north end into the Uptown Design District. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals draw attention to the desert city, and January’s Palm Springs International Film Festival attracts top names and an ever-increasing number of visitors.

Greater Palm Springs includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, and Coachella. Tourism is the main sector of the country’s economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring the rest of the city by car. Palm Desert has a great outdoor mall in Indio/Coachella that can be great for taking pictures or if you’re going to a festival (without your dog).

13 Dog-friendly Lakes To Visit This Summer

We’ve been to some dog-friendly places, and when I say Palm Springs is the most dog-friendly town we’ve been to, I mean it. It’s hard to describe, but the feeling is welcome no matter where we go with Ruby, and we hope that’s evident in this comprehensive guide.

The weather in Palm Springs is very pleasant all year round, but there are certain times that are considered the best to visit: winter and early spring. Palm Springs feels special during the winter months, between November and January, because while the rest of the country is cold and snowy, Palm Springs boasts sunshine and temperatures of 65- 75 degrees.

When traveling to Palm Springs with your dog, I do not recommend visiting after March. If your only plan is to be at the pool during your stay. Summer temperatures are usually around 100℉ and can reach 115℉ when the humidity is below 10%.

Being in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert area is a perfect atmosphere and one of my favorite things about visiting this country. I’m a big fan of mid-century modern homes and funky deserts, so I’d be in heaven with just a vacation rental and hotel in this area.

If you’re staying in downtown Palm Springs, there are dog-friendly hotels around Palm Canyon Dr. and Indian Canyon Dr. which is convenient for walking to shops and restaurants. Check out ARRIVE Palm Springs, Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, Colony Palm Hotel & Bungalows, and Saguaro Palm Springs.

If renting is your favorite place to stay, we’re fans of the kitchen and the great outdoors, visit AirBnB or VRBO and turn on the pet plan. These are some of the houses I have put on my wish list. The photo below was taken when we spent the weekend at Mesa Tavira and Joshua Tree. You can see all of our home tours on Instagram.

Palm Springs is already a friendly city, with 354 days of sunshine a year and plenty of things to do that will welcome your dog with open arms.

Boozehounds Palm Springs was founded by three friends for one reason…they love dogs and dream of a place where people can take their pups, have great wine or great food, and socialize in style . This is the best hotel our dog has been to for two reasons. enough. when visiting during the winter months. We love eating here for breakfast and you can check out our visit on Instagram.

Company 4 Paws Coffee Co., Ltd. Another dog park in Palm Springs that you should check out. We were greeted quickly as soon as we walked in the door, the cafe was decorated with decorations and signs between dogs. Rue and I enjoy our pastry and coffee at the cafe as she eats it with a puppy cup. Purchases from the cafe support their efforts to give back to local shelters and continue their mission of bringing great coffee, food and connection to the Palm Springs community.

Moorten Botanical Garden is a private arboretum designed to share the beauty and unique species of desert plants with all visitors. These desert plants, trees and cacti are featured from around the world and range in size from small to large. They are home to the world’s first cactus, my favorite part of the garden, and dogs on leashes in the garden.

Parking for the park is across the street from the S Palm Canyon Dr entrance. Admission is $5/person and dogs are free. This small garden can be explored in 30 minutes by walking around the perimeter of the building. We spent a little time here because I was taking pictures in the cactarium. If you visit during the week, you should be lucky with little or no crowds.

The unique thing about Southern California is all the wind turbine regions. They have tours in Palm Springs to see them up close, but I’m not sure if they allow dogs. We chose harmony.

To see the background below, take the Indian Canyon Drive and Garnett turn off I-10. If you are heading north on Indian Canyon, turn left on Garnet and go 1/4 mile to the parking lot. There is very little traffic in this area, so as long as you don’t block the main road, you can park wherever you want to escape.

I recommend going to the sunset. At sunset, the desert looks like a cotton sky, but the sun sets behind the mountains early in the morning, so make sure you arrive before sunset really sets. There is a fence around the turbines, but it is not really visible in the shade of the mountains and bushes in the area. You just have to accept it.

Although there are restrictions on visiting Joshua Tree National Park with your furry friend, there are many dog-friendly activities that will allow you to see different parts of the park while you and your dog visit. Ruby and I have visited many times and put together the best Joshua Tree itineraries for a half or full day visit to the park.

This mid-century home is a gem for those interested in mid-century modern architecture. Almost all of the homes in Indian Canyon are mid-century built and feature large glass windows, wide balconies and large pools. Because of this, it has a rich history and a beautiful, unobstructed view of the mountains.

The Best Dog-friendly Hotels In The U.s.

You’ve probably seen some of these homes on Instagram, with beautiful landscaping and beautiful front doors. The best way to enjoy these houses is to park your car and walk the streets. I love the houses in South Yosemite and South Camino Real.

Downtown Palm Springs brings a friendly feel to life. It is a lively area full of shops, restaurants and unique art galleries. We have so many people come up to us and tell us how well Ruby is doing and every shop owner goes straight to Ruby wanting to give her pets, water and treats. If you follow us on social media, you know that Ruby is no stranger to danger, but she readily accepts the pets offered.

There are many things to do downtown, with Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive being the main attractions. I recommend just looping and getting lost in the fun stuff. South Palm Canyon is slightly higher, and the northern area is more modern and the recently restored Uptown Design area.

The stores on my list are eg. Ibis Women’s Boutique, great for Palm Springs souvenirs, Peepas, Out West Trading Co, Convet of Permanent Jewelry and Destination PSP. The PSP site has the best house plan ever.

Our favorite downtown restaurants are Boozehounds, 1501 Uptown Gastropub, Ice Cream and Shop (Friday), and Tac/Quila (get a churro ice cream sandwich).

In addition to shopping and dining downtown, you can also admire the unique art galleries scattered throughout the area, such as the PS ❤️ painting of you and Marilyn Monroe above. If you have time, you can search them all using this guide.

As you can tell, Palm Springs has a thriving art scene, and in addition to large and unusual sculptures, the city also has many walls. My favorite is Greetings from the Palm
