Day Trips With Dogs Massachusetts

Day Trips With Dogs Massachusetts – New Bedford, a small town in southeastern Massachusetts, is a great day trip for dogs from Rhode Island. You can easily drive from Providence, RI to New Bedford, MA. We couldn’t even do everything on my list in one day because we had so much fun and ended up staying longer than expected in a few places.

We started by passing through New Bedford in Mattapoisett to get to the Mattapoisett Railroad (link). The weather was perfect, and this 4.5-mile trail offers views of Buzzards Bay, lagoons and lagoons, the city’s boat dock, and more. Starting our day with a nice walk on this train line was worth the journey.

After checking in properly, we headed to New Bedford, Massachusetts (about 20 minutes from Mattapoisett).

We went to Fort Taber Park (link) to walk along Buzzard’s Bay and check out the various forts within the park. The castles were impressive, but the real highlight was the beautiful view over the water. Trails at Fort Taber connect to New Bedford Covewalk (link) for a beautiful view along the water. There were many people and many dogs in the park. This park is very popular and well used.

It was nice walking in the garden and Teddy was tired by the time we were done. We usually try to break up large parts of our adventure walks with more rest time, but the weather was so nice and the trail was so much fun that we couldn’t resist continuing.

Teddy loved greeting the other dogs and really enjoyed this part of the adventure. By the time we finished walking he was definitely ready for a break. At this point we had walked about five kilometers and we were all ready for a late lunch!

On day trips that involve lots of outdoor activities, we often look for cozy places to eat, and Whale Tail Pillar Bar (link) was cozy and delicious.

Business was brisk and it looked like the kind of place that could be busy when the weather was nice. It’s next to a small ice cream shop and a larger restaurant, Black Whale (a similar restaurant and oyster bar).

I could see it being a place to enjoy your nice dinner. Whale’s Tail Clam Bar had a good seafood and other typical clam food (mostly fried, but some great options on the menu if you want to avoid fried food) and a good selection of drinks and spirits. I went with the fried shrimp and really enjoyed it! It was a light and delicious bread.

After resting and enjoying our lunch at the Whale Tail Clam Bar, we crossed the street to visit the buildings and grounds that make up the New Bedford Whale National Historical Park (link). Although Teddy the dog cannot enter various buildings or the whale museum, there are wayfinding signs and plenty of historic architecture that can be appreciated without entering the buildings.

It’s been on my visit list for a few years now and it was great to see the site in person. And I think Teddy liked this activity unlike his previous trip!

We walked for more than an hour in an area less than three square meters. Definitely worth it if you’re considering visiting.

At this point we were all getting ready to end this particular adventure and head back to Rhode Island.

We spent approximately ten hours on this adventure, including approximately two hours of driving time, more than six miles of hiking, and a delicious meal. New Bedford was a great day trip for dogs and the experience is definitely one we would like to repeat in the future. Doggie Day Trips

Since I visited on a hot summer Sunday, I didn’t see as many people here as I expected, but we went early in the morning. On the way, I saw more young people arriving for what appeared to be a day of swimming and listening to music.

How can there be so many waterfalls in a small town?! We have Sanderson Brook Falls, Glendale Falls, and now Goldmine Falls. Wow! For these alone, I would make a return trip to this waterfall town.

You can get a front row seat to Goldmine Falls for over ten miles. The entire trail is 0.5 miles round trip, but is rated ‘moderate’ on AllTrails because you’ll get some elevation gain here, along with rocks and roots.
