The parks are regulated by the Provincial Parks and Reserves Conservation Act because of their significant natural and cultural features. However, because they are an important source of recreation for humans, the parks are subject to restrictions regarding pets. As a general rule, pets must be kept on a leash of no more than 2 meters and must not be allowed in the seaside areas and beaches, even where they are allowed.
Pets are allowed in all provincial parks in Ontario, with some exceptions noted below. However, some places are better suited for outdoor pet entertainment than others. Located about 1 1/2 hours north of Napanee, this state park is famous for the 100-foot-tall Mazinaw Rock, which rises from Mazinaw Lake and displays more than 260 local images. A provincial park located between Timmins and Chapleau, the site features hiking trails with views of ancient glaciers along with a soft sand beach. Tea Lakes National Park offers many attractions: late summer blueberry picking in the boreal jack pine forest; Kettle Lake fed by 22 glacial springs; family-friendly translation programs; and 14 kilometers of attractive bike paths. Four-legged visitors can enjoy a pet-friendly area at Green Lake, where dogs can swim in the lake.

Located on the northwest shore of Lake Erie, Long Point is Ontario’s fourth largest provincial park and boasts one of the largest waterfowl and waterfowl migration and rest areas in North America.
