Dogs are allowed on public beaches. Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day. The height of the dog should not exceed 1.8 meters. At all other times of the year, dogs must be on a 12-foot leash. Dogs are allowed on the beach as long as they do not disturb other people on the beach. Untrained dogs must be controlled by a handler who must remain within 30 feet of the dog at all times. Storage should always be with the owner/developer.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach from 09:00 to 18:00 from 15 May to 15 September, unless they are service animals. Dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash.
Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, as long as they do not exceed 3 meters in length and are in the hands of a person who can control the animal.
Dogs are welcome at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Your pet must be present 6 times at all times and pets are prohibited during resource closures.
