Wherever you go, having your furry friend with you is an incredible experience! Be sure to pack gifts (we have plenty!) to make the trip fun and enjoy exploring with your best friend! As we love to travel with our dogs Oscar and Sadie, keeping up is important. Among them, major hotel chains are pet-friendly. Years ago we found a chain that was more dog friendly than others, so we always carry it with us when we book hotels. Big selling point: Dogs stay free. You are also allowed to leave your dogs alone in the hotel room as long as they do not disturb other guests. Sold!

Since then, however, major hotel chains have emphasized the fact that Americans want to travel with their pets. Therefore, they need to be more friendly towards animal-loving guests. Of course, most hotels always welcome service dogs and do so for free.

Now that I’ve discussed which major airlines in the United States are dog and pet-friendly airports, I thought it was time to cover which major hotel chains are pet-friendly. As I wrote in my article about traveling with your dog, we already know that some boutique brands welcome pets. These include Aloft (part of the Marriott family) and Kimpton (part of InterContinental Hotels or IHG).

But what about the rest of the big chains like Marriott and IHG? Among the top 10 hotel chains, I found the following:

The Marriott Bonvoy family consists of several different brands. These include the aforementioned Aloft hotels.

According to the Marriott hotel chain’s pet-friendly brands page, these are the ones that welcome your pets the most:

Although they are marketed as pet-friendly accommodations, dogs don’t live for free. Marriott may also refuse to accommodate your pet based on your pet’s weight or breed. So make sure you check before you book.

“Furry friends are family too. We get it. That’s why we welcome four-legged guests with open arms and belly rubs to more than 5,000 hotels in the US and Canada.” Hilton hotels

Among the brands of the Hilton chain of hotels, you should have no problems booking a room with a pet:

Currently, pets do not stay free at Hilton hotels. Every time Oscar and Sadie and I stayed at the Hilton chain, we had to pay a pet fee. It ranges from $50 per pet per night to $75 per pet per night.

My mother-in-law lived in New York for many years, so we often traveled to visit her and spend Christmas. We couldn’t stay with him because he lived in a small apartment. So we have to stay in a pet friendly hotel. However, as it is always incredibly difficult to find a dog walker on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, we are limited in how much time we can spend with you.

Then we look for pet policies at IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) hotels, specifically the Kimpton hotels in Manhattan. We lived near all of them in New York.

When the Kimptons couldn’t help us find a dog walker, we were allowed to leave Oscar and Sadie alone while we were out. As I said before, that is, as long as they don’t disturb the other guests.

Also, since we are rewards members and have an IHG credit card, we did not pay for the dogs to stay with us. Note. The hotel mentioned in my Instagram story above is no longer part of the Kimpton chain. It’s still called Hotel Inc 48, and it’s still pet-friendly. However, I don’t know if they have the same rules as Kimpton.
