Full disclosure, I’m not a skier, but my husband and daughter are, so I’m told. Skiing in the west is like skiing in the clouds – lots of great powder. The ski season runs through March with great adventures in T-shirt skiing in 40+ degree weather. Resorts, lodges, and skiing can be very tempting for the rich and famous.

Skiing on the East Coast is more difficult because skiers often encounter icy conditions. As the temperature rises and the snow melts, it freezes and uses artificial snow. Of course, there are exclusive resorts, but they are not as common as in the West.

Dogs are allowed in all public areas, such as the lobby, great room, outdoor terrace and outside the hotel, but not in the restaurants or pool area. If you leave your dog in the room when you go out, there will be a sign on the door to notify the cleaner that you have a dog in your room. This is very helpful so you don’t disturb your puppy or run away from the room, but it’s best to take your puppy with you or find a licensed, trusted pet sitter.

Pet Sitters International is a great organization that helps people outside of the US find a reputable pet sitter that they have vetted.

You gotta love a hotel that gives a percentage of your dog’s $25 daily cleaning fee back to a local shelter and has a pet blog! I didn’t want to include two resorts in Colorado, even though it’s a great ski state, I couldn’t resist. Also, my daughter stopped to ski in Telluride for a few days on her way from Charleston to Los Angeles and she raved about it. And there was a 75 pound lab/shepherd mix with Mackie!

Telluride is a very dog-friendly town. The Telluride Inn is beautiful and they really love your dog. If you need to leave while the room is being cleaned, the girls at the front desk will take care of it. Now that’s dedication! Hey, what self-respecting dog lover passes up an opportunity for a cuddle, right?!

Even the pet page of the hotel website is written from a pet perspective. Rule 1: Your parents must be at a controlled volume or noise level in the lobby. Well, mom needs to practice this today too!  Dogs are allowed to stay in the room for a short time, but if necessary, it is recommended to inform the hotel reception and leave the room.

Tricks & Treats pet sitting service and Whiskers & Tails dog washing service are connected to the hotel upon request. I love this because it takes a lot off my mind knowing that these services have been vetted enough to promote and collect them in the past.

Puppies must be on a leash at all times in the hotel. They cannot be placed in hotel restaurants, near the pool or near the pool area. They can go to the main or upper lobby. So this resort is less pet friendly when it comes to allowing pets in the area.  Outside there is a dog sanctuary where they can relax and walk, and the golf course with a lodge is a great place to putt, run or play with your dog in the winter.
