My dog Cotopaxi is B.A.R.K. Ranger, if you decide to take the world’s best hiking companions, think the same.

The Red River Valley is located in Kentucky, just a few hours from Lexington, Cincinnati, Columbus, Nashville, Knoxville and more. It is also the 2nd or 3rd tallest in the United States. (Probably second only to California’s Yosemite National Park and possibly California’s Joshua Tree.) It’s a backpacker’s mecca, but its great location and fun atmosphere (for rural Kentucky) make it a great place for hiking, camping, and other recreational activities. too. entertainment.

Two of my favorite hikes with the dog are Swift Camp Creek and Stone Bridge.

The Swift Camp Creek Trail has multiple start and end locations in the Daniel Boone National Forest. There is a trail located next to Swift Camp Creek at Rock Bridge if you combine the two for a full day hike.

These two walks are perfect for my dogs. They are allowed to walk on the road and the terrain supports them.

The Sky Bridge station is nearby where you can eat, although I never ate there. Mainly because I only visit the Red River Valley in the off season. Therefore, their working time was limited.

2. Miguel. The pizza is good and so is the basketball court. This is a place for experimentation. It is the destination of the “Four Eastern Camps” and climbers from all over the world!

We loved staying at Camp Linda with our dog Kotopaki. (We won the contest and took over the tour for our friends at the time, RV Rentals and Road Trips.)

The crowd and atmosphere was a bit behind Miguel. We were experienced climbers there and a group from Quebec who had been climbing the Red River Valley for several months.

The campground has TONS of space, including miles of hiking trails. On other routes, we usually hiked in the morning, had lunch, and returned to the property in the afternoon. They have a restaurant on site, but it’s only open during ramen on the weekends.

Miguel has cheap campsites and I enjoyed staying there too. However, having a dog and being an older person, I now lean towards the Lago Lindo. (afternoon at Miguel’s!)

Our Whirlwind Weekend In Dog Friendly Hill Country

The climbing talk seems to be moving away from the Kentucky area as a good outdoor place for anything but climbing. Yes, a climbing epic, I climb every time I go.

But the trails are less crowded, the terrain is dog-friendly, accessible from several major cities, and there are some spectacular views. Also, all the places we wanted to go and visit (restaurants, campsites, etc.) had great dog friendly options.

Kentucky’s Red River Valley has been in my backyard for most of my life, and it took me a long time to visit. But when I finally did, I came back and thought it was my favorite place to adventure in the Midwest/Southern US.
