When you’re ready to hit the trails, make your first stop at the Red Rock Ranger Station and Visitor Center (8375 State Route 179). This is a great place to get up-to-date information on trail conditions, pick up maps and purchase parking passes.
ARed Rock card is required when leaving your vehicle unattended at the Red Rock Ranger District’s 19 designated day-use sites around Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. Tickets can also be purchased from kiosks in certain parking areas, and annual tickets cost $5 per day, $15 per week, or $20.
If you and your pup are visiting a national park or national forest during your trip, consider purchasing an America the Beautiful Interagency Pass instead. Bell Rock is one of Sedona’s four main whirlpools, making this trail very popular. This is one of the most dog friendly hikes in Sedona.
You’ll get great views of Bell Rock, Bata Court and other landmarks. And most of the tracks are wide with hard surfaces, so it never feels crowded. Climbing Rock Bell is also fun!

Bell Rock Pathway and Courthouse Butte Loop can be accessed from the same parking lot. Many people go straight to Bell Rock, so for more solitude, opt for a loop around Butte Court. Fewer people and epic pages? yes do it!

Rabbit Ears is a relatively new trail that can be accessed via the Big Park Loop from either the Bell Rock Vista parking lot or the Jacks Canyon parking lot – both require a Red Rock Pass.

As one of the four main vortex locations and a place of epic beauty, this path is very busy. The 1.2 mile hike (round trip) to Cathedral Rock is considered difficult, but there are easier options if you prefer to stick to the trail at the base.

We chose Chimney Rock Pass, a 1.7 mile route that starts at Thunder Mountain. Even though you’re on the edge of a residential neighborhood, it doesn’t feel like a long time. Follow the route counter-clockwise, so that you pass the nearby houses first and then enjoy the view of the red rocks for the rest of the journey.
This is a classic Sedona hike with a natural bridge. As one of Sedona’s most popular dog-friendly hikes, parking at any trailhead for Devil’s Bridge can be difficult. Start early or leave at midnight to avoid the crowds.

The trail starts on an old road through a canyon lined with juniper and prickly pear, then climbs along a red rock ledge. As the path begins to climb, it splits – one side leads to the foot of the natural bridge. The other side allows you to explore the top of the bridge.

From the moment your dog’s paws hit the trail, you will be immersed in the wilderness. Aside from a glimpse of the golf course about half a mile away, it feels like you’re miles from civilization.

This hike has several stream crossings that involve scrambling over rocks, but I still recommend wearing shoes you don’t mind getting wet.
Leave early to avoid the parking crowds and be sure to pack plenty of snacks or a picnic lunch. The trail is doable in 2-3 hours, but with plenty of options for hanging out in the shade or by the water, you’ll want to take the time to enjoy the scenery.

On our last trip to Sedona, we stayed at the Red Agave Resort and loved it! Apart from the accommodation being extremely comfortable, the view from our room was spectacular. And the $60 pet fee per stay was perfectly reasonable.
Red Agave is great for dogs because the cabins don’t share walls, so you won’t hear your neighbors in many hotels. And there is no corridor for people or dogs. With no elevators, no ice machines and no vending machines, unfamiliar sounds like barking dogs are not a problem. It was a wonderful and peaceful place to stay with Miles.
We were able to walk to several popular trailheads – so no parking pressure. And while we had a great kitchen, there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance, so we had plenty of dining options. We look forward to seeing them again!
