The UK’s top dog-friendly beaches have been revealed, with new information gathered from online reviews used to find Britain’s favourites.

The best place on Durdle Door beach is Dorset Castle, with a score of 8.85 out of 10. It is described as “the perfect beach trip for dogs and their owners, and the famous white cliffs make for a wonderful daydream for profit. The results are based on more than 4,298 West Coast surveys.

Another beach in Dorset, Man O’War Beach, came in second after scoring 8.3. Also known as East Durdle’s Gate, it is a calm beach that is protected from swells – meaning that it is possible to get splashed with your bum.

It is associated with a village on the Welsh coast, Three Cliffs Bay in Glamorgan, the first sandy beach in the list. Here are places on the beach with plenty of space to roam.

In fourth place, with 8.2 out of 10, is Marloes Sands in Pembrokeshire. Along a stretch of golden beach with a spectacular rock wall, “it’s the perfect opportunity to take a photo with your daughter,” the report said.

Rounding out the top five is Cuckmere Haven Beach in East Sussex, which scored 8.06. The rocky terrain is adjacent to the white chalk stones of the seven sisters.

Devon has the highest number of friendly beaches in the list, with 22 out of 148 places.

The research comes from Baths to You, which analyzed Google ratings and reviews for 148 dog-free beaches to find the most popular spots. However, beaches without Google Maps ratings and reviews were excluded from the study. Ratings are averaged to arrive at a weighted average score, before calculating the mean.
