But when you travel, you often leave one important member behind: your four-legged friend in your life. However, there’s no need to leave your dog with friends or in a kennel when planning your next holiday to the UK. When you’re out and about, they can accompany you on walks, bike rides, city tours or even boat trips, allowing you to have fun and unforgettable vacations without leaving home.

Best Dog-friendly Beaches In The Uk For 2024

There are dog-friendly destinations and pet-friendly accommodation all over the UK, from seaside hotels to secluded cabins and cottages in the Cotswolds. This is the first option – don’t forget to bring some snacks and tips.

One of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes, the Lake District is a haven for outdoor activities, offering hundreds of opportunities for dogs (and their owners) to enjoy short walks, long walks and challenging walks. The many paths between villages are easy to navigate and your pet will not feel overwhelmed during the journey.

Mair House Farm, just outside the market town of Keswick, is a collection of shepherd’s huts and glamping cabins overlooking the hills of the North Falls. The Little Man is one of many dog-friendly accommodation options, with a small enclosed garden and several acres of grassy land for walks or quick outings. There are a number of pet friendly pubs in the nearby village of Threlkeld.

The cozy cabins feature private hot tubs, stylish wooden interiors and outdoor seating areas – a great choice for couples with our furry friends.

Fistral Beach in Cornwall is known as a surfers paradise and on calm days this golden sandy beach is a dog walk with plenty of room to run along the 750m of sand. There are dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafes en route to the New Quarter, as well as activities such as steam train rides in the Lappa Valley or welcoming furry friends on fishing trips.

Overlooking the Fistral River, the Esplanade Hotel offers guests a base with unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean. Dog beds and toys are provided, and there’s even a dog-friendly ‘snack’ menu, including dishes such as fish and chips or a roast dinner.

With spacious rooms, a spa, swimming pool and easy access to the beach, this Cornish hotel is ideal for families, with a particular emphasis on ‘making memories’, offering surfing lessons and similar family activities.

The Cotswolds have the walks and picturesque backdrop of the Lake District, but even more. Here, acres of rolling hills and similar hills surround pretty villages with honey-coloured tiled houses, and there are plenty of walking opportunities, including relaxing riverside strolls in villages such as Bibury and Burton-on-the-Water .

Snowshill Manor Farmhouse is part of a larger estate and is a National Trust property located in the small town of Snowshill (close to Broadway). It is a “true walker’s hide” with many dog-friendly walks nearby, as part of the 102-mile Cotswold Way, but visitors can also walk to nearby Stratton-upon-Avon or Chipping Campden . The cabin has a comfortable, modern interior and a wood-burning fireplace to keep guests warm. There is enough space for two dogs, which means that larger groups can rent this special cabin.

Brighton is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the UK. There are many walks, beaches, pavilion gardens and parks around the city (such as the nearby South Downs), but there are dog-friendly businesses in Brighton, including several pubs and cafes.

You can take your pup on a waterfall tour on the Volk’s Electric Railway, or watch him at any of the city’s dog-centric events, such as Saltdean Lido’s Dogtember event (in September and weekends in September, there are four activities per day where dogs and owners can swim)1).

The Grand Brighton Hotel is one of the most dog friendly hotels in town. Dogs can be booked in any room and will receive a welcome pack including a blanket, water bowl and treats. Pets are not allowed in the main restaurant or on the terrace, but they can enjoy dinner with you by the fireplace in the hotel’s Victoria Lounge and Bar.

Yorkshire is another county perfect for relaxing with the family dog, with its unspoiled countryside and seaside towns offering owners plenty of ways to spend their time. Whitby is such a small town, situated on the coast just a few miles from the edge of the North York Country National Park, so you can choose from country walks or runs along the sand and sea.

The Egton Estate is set in the desert, set on 6,000 acres of gently rolling land. With acres of moorland and miles of river running through the gardens, it’s a great place to bring (well-behaved) dogs to play with the owner’s own rescue dogs (and sample a selection of organic treats).

With acres of lush woodland out in the Ayrshire countryside, surrounded by rolling green hills and small villages, Ayr is a popular seaside resort for day trips (there’s a dog-friendly promenade and beach visits).

But if you want to go crazy with your dog, check into Mount Freedom Cabins. Nestled among the hills above the cliffs on the Rock Coast, these three cottages offer a relaxing retreat with panoramic views of Arran Island. Dogs will enjoy the space to run on the beach or in the nearby woodland, and they can sit with you while you dine at The Anchorage Bar, near Dunyre village. When it’s time to settle down, they’ll appreciate the fireplace as much as you will (they probably won’t appreciate the hot tub or the view as much as you will).
