One of the best places to enjoy a long walk with your dog in London while taking in the sights of the city is the South Bank. It’s a very easy walk from London Bridge to Bridgeminster Bridge, close to the river, and a short walk near Borough Market.

A popular place to enjoy lunch is the local dog market. Aggressive dogs are allowed, although they may be avoided during large events. I was tempted to stay in front of the river at Anchor Bankside – choose outside or inside. When I visited London at the end of April, there were still many pop-up sites set up.
It is less than an hour by train from central London to two stations in Windsor, the home of Windsor. Even if the dogs can’t join you in the castle, there is still a lot to see and do with your dog by your side.

With over 800 acres to explore, it’s no wonder Hampstead Heath is a popular spot for dog owners from across London. But unlike parks that don’t allow dogs in the pool, your dog can swim here.
Go to Highgate Pool No 1, near the Highgate Road entrance, where dogs are allowed in the large area around the pool. If you are too busy or your dog is too shy, also find a small fenced area by the lake a little further away.
Note that dogs are not allowed in other pools where people swim. But dogs are allowed out in almost all of the park, except for some areas in the north near Kenwood House, where they are required to be on a lead or restricted – see this map of Hampstead Heath.
East London’s Dog Friendly Market
Another popular seaside resort near London is the resort town of Brighton, less than 60 miles south of London and an hour on the Thameslink train.
When I visited Brighton recently, it was still late April, dogs were allowed on most beaches. However, during the summer season from May 1 to September 30, most beaches are off limits to dogs. I recommend going to the beach east of Brighton Palace Pier – dogs are allowed all year round on the rocks between Volks Railway Station and the Marina Wall.
While you’re in Brighton, enjoy a walk with your dog by your side – if you get to the Angel of Peace statue, your pooch can enjoy Hove’s treats. Dogs are also welcome on the Volks Railway, a railway that connects historic Brighton Palace Pier with the seafront.
While the Thames is London’s most popular waterway, the Regent’s Canal is also a great place to walk your dog, especially the 2 mile stretch between Venice and Camden.

I started my journey in Paddington Valley, near Paddington station and a short drive from Venice. The section of the canal between Little Venice and the Maida Hill Tunnel contains several canal boats, although each road has its own access. From Maida Canal to Camden Market the route is through and right on Regent’s Canal. On the way you will pass through Regent’s Park, with its large villages and the park of London Zoo (otherwise dogs are not allowed). It’s easy to head to Primrose Hill Park for a picnic on the hill or in the garden.
